So I was at some light the other day, and some street youths in a Golf asked me to wind down my windows.

Even though their origin was the streets, and one "OG" in particular was smoking the devil's lettuce ... I gathered from our exchange he wished me to rev the engine. Being somewhat of a homeboy myself, I wished to oblige the young man's request.

Is it safe (mechanically, I don't mean increasing the risk of a drive-by) to put the car in N and rev the sweet nuts off it?

Love this post.

If your engine is warm, you're fine. Also limited to 4k which is kind of no fun.

Devil's lettuce made me smirk.

I'm curious how you decided the RS3 was the car for you? It's a lot of machine for idling to and from church in Sundays and popping down to the shops ;)

To answer your question though, yes it's safe - no load on the engine so does no harm as long as the oil is sufficiently warm to protect the rings and bearings. Rev away gramps :)

Ah i'm only in my early thirties, but when I see lads knocking about from the rougher bits of town I used to live in, seems a lifetime away

On a serious note though, I was in Manchester Audi and a 97 year old guy was in getting some answers to questions ON HIS BRAND NEW RS4

Yep 4k limit so not possible to damage the car. Some have the limit removed and by jove it sounds good above 4k!

Any truth in turning off the TC removes said 4K limit? Just summat I read once and have never been curious enough to see if it works...

This post wins the internet today! :thumbs up:
I guess another option is to tap the ESC button and just fire up launch control.....without the launch. Sounds pretty meaty :rockwoot:

I was messing about with being a loon and revving today ...

if you pop it in N, without your foot on the brake, it revs freely. If you are in N and have your foot on the brake, the throttle reacts totally differently and ignores the input a bit. Maybe some kind of accidental throttle protection thingy?

Wait, what? Are you saying in N you can rev beyond 4k? What year is your car?

Not saying I can rev beyond 4k, but i'll try it later ...

But the car ignores the first 50% of throttle travel in N when my foot is on the brake ... otherwise it revs freely
