Hi all,

I have always been under the impression my S3 8v pre FL (2015) had a cambelt and I’m lead to believe the interval for changing these is every 5 years or 60k.

After a little Google I’ve found various posts stating my engine is chain driven and doesn’t need replacing for the life of the engine.

Can someone in the know please confirm whether my vehicle has a cambelt or chain.

Thank you! :)

It is indeed chain driven. All EA888 are chain driven.

Perfect thank you! :)

So I take it the water pump doesn’t need replacing as a serviceable item unless it fails....would it be wise to get a coolant flush every 5 years?

I'm confused - when I put my reg on the Audi Service website, it shows an option for cambelt change (£575) which it says should be done at roughly 70k miles?

The website is wrong and Audi confirmed to me.
Car has a chain with in theory zero maintenance.

I really hope you're right as I don't fancy shelling out that kind of money soon!

Change your oil every twelve months or 10k whichever is sooner. Don't wait for variable servicing schedule for 'service due'. If your oil uptake pipe filter clogs due to sludge in sump then it's possible that your timing chain tensioner can fail. If you change oil on a regular basis then you shouldn't need to worry about the timing chain :thumbs up:
