One of the things I really hated about my A4 B9 (also came with Matrix LED headlights) was that you always had to manually enable the Auto Beam setting everytime you started the car in darkness...it was a right pain. However on my A6, I've noticed the 'Auto Beam Assist' setting remains on all the time, meaning you automatically get the adaptive/matrix LEDs working at night. without having the manually push the indicator stalk each time. I take it Audi finally used a bit of common sense and realised that most - if not all - drivers would prefer to have the auto beam assist on all the time?
Cheers

Mine is on all the time every start of the car

Did the last one have matrix or just led?

Last one (A4 Avant Black Edition) definitely had Matrix LEDs, was a MY2018 model. Lovely car but hated the engine (2.0 TFSI/190 PS) - the 2.0 TDI /204 PS in the A6 is far better :)

Agree I just ditched the 190 a6 2016 and got a 204 2019 a6 same

My mate still has a 16 but with led not matrix and he has to activate it every thime

What’s the difference between auto beam assist and hi beam assist that comes with the tour pack?

I might be wrong but I think 'auto beam assist' refers to vehicles with Matrix headlights whilst 'hi-beam assist' is for those for non-matrix lights. So on the latter you either get dipped headlights or full beam - nothing in between. Whilst the matrix headlights offer a combination of 2 million different light patterns (apparently). Impressive :)

You're correct. I've been looking for VCDS coding to auto-enable auto beam assist but have yet to find, Only seems to be an option on non-matrix cars on the B9/F5 platform.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but intrigued as to how you have got the radio to display text on the DIS. On my car I can only get this to display on the main MMI display. Have you created a data connection via your phone (rather than the embedded SIM) to the car, so you can enable onine content?

Not done anything special, phone (iPhone XS) is connected to the car by bluetooth only & mainly for the handsfree option. The radio text in the DIS has been there from day 1. I also get the name of the track being played in thje DIS if I play any online radio station from my iphone, eg through TuneIn Radio Pro. Can't be bothered with Apple Car Play as it kills the phone battery very quickly and as I don't have the wireless charging phone box, I can't be bothered with faffing around with charging cables.

Thanks. Must be a firmware change then as my car (built September 2018 and bought by me Jan 2019) does not have that function and like you i am using an iPhone so not able to make a data connection using the phone

No worries. Do you have a virtual cockpit or standard cockpit like mine? Because if its the latter, then yours should be the same - considering my A4 B9 (built in March 2018) which also came with a non virtaul cockpit, had the same stuff shown on the DIS.

Apple car play only works with the phone plugged in with cable anyway.

My understanding is that Wireless CarPlay only works if the car has a dedicated Internet connection, which then enables the car and device to connect via WiFi. This requires either an Android phone running rSAP, a dedicated SIM or the purchase of Internet data from Audi

I definitely don’t have an Android phone (using iPhone XS) nor I have purchased any data sim from Audi separately - the car just has its standard factory installed data connection. So no idea how I’m getting wireless Apple car play!

This is what I was led to believe, it def doesn’t work in my car as I’ve tried. I was asked by the dealer if I used the wireless charging so I told the dealer it was a waste of time and money having the wireless charging as you need the iPhone to be cabled up to access CarPlay. My box is switched off at least.
I’m interested to know how yours works though.

How have you got the phone connected to the car? Bluetooth only
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi only ?

All CarPlay does is “mirror” your phone apps to the car using the Wifi connection, and using your phone’s data connection for the apps.

I have also found that if you connect the phone to the car with the Wifi/BT connection and run the apps built into the MMI such as Amazon Music, it will piggyback off your mobile’s data connection. The Audi SIM only provides data to the News, Weather, etc. I think.

Psychopomp1 - I have the same system as you in regards to the smaller MMI and cluster (non tech-pack). There is a current issue reported with Car Play and Andoird Auto where the screen does not detect touch input from the left side.

Would you be able to check this has now been fixed with later cars such as yours? Mine is a Sept 18 model and I have had this issue like many others since purchase. If it does work would you be able to take a photo of the versions of software that you are running so that I can compare them against mine? I suspect that the later versions that you are likely running are also giving more detailed information on the DIS.

Bluetooth & wifi. However i only used wireless apple car play for a day or so. Currently my iphone is connected via bluetooth only, and this gives me handsfree in the car and allows me to play online radio from the phone.

Will try out wireless apple car play again later on and get back to you :)

I’ve just tried mine again, Bluetooth connected as normal so I connected to WiFi and was asked to register & login to buy a data plan. So that’s the end of that.
