Is it advised to turn the key to the accessories position, for the fuel pump to prime itself, before turning on the engine? Or does it make no difference to just turn on the engine straight away?

I just turn it to start when the coil light goes out

The fuel pump primes itself as you open the door so just turn the key to start the car as normal.

Even in my ancient 2006 one? Nice! I didn't know that was a thing in any car. I must say I don't think I've ever noticed a difference between turning to accessory position first, or not, which would make sense.

My Golf from 1998 primes as I open the drivers door so you should be the same. My 2007 S3 does it too.

Just climb in the car, start it up and go normally. If you have problems starting could be blocked fuel filter, leaking pipes, water in petrol.

Thanks, all. I wasn't having problems; just curious about how the fuel system works, really.
