Hello,

I picked up my 2018 A6 this evening. First Audi car I've owned. 5000 miles on the clock and it drives like new. Really happy with it. What are the first things I should check for in terms of...

software updates? MMI updates?
Is there aftermarket ways of installing Apple carplay?
Is it possible to have a graphical map display in the center dash display. When I use the nav it just shows me blue arrows.
Is there a software hack that will allow me to add the "needle sweep" when I turn on the car?

Software and MMI updates officially are a dealer item and they will only do them if it is deemed necessary. If you buy Carista from Amazon you can enable needle sweep and other things like mirror dip on reverse. For £15 it is really good value.

As you are getting blue arrows I take you have the tech pack. In that case when you have the compass or navigation instructions displayed on the instrument display press the menu button on the steering wheel (LH side of wheel, square icon with lines) and that should allow you to select map view. Scroll down and you can reduce the number of icons being displayed

Hi thanks for your reply.

With the compass in the center of the dash I press the menu button on the steering wheel like you suggest by a message pops up saying "....not currently available".

Also, 1) my pop up screen seems to be much smaller than others I've seen on youtube videos. Where there bigger screens as options?
2) what are the small square boxes on the door handles for?
3) my software version is RMC_EU_P16342. Is up to date?

sorry for all the questions I jut came from 4 years of Porsche ownership and all these things are new.

via a CarPlay box from eBay, amazon or aliexpress. Expect to pay from £200 to £400 and said box connects to your MMI unit.

No, you have the basic navigation system.

Yes, coding tools like VCDS and alike can do this.

You have the basic / entry level small screen Media System. MMI3G is the large screen option.

advanced key / keyless entry

I ordered the Carista OBD2 so I'll have a play around with that and get the needle sweep and alarm beeps etc etc working.

OK so the keyless entry? How should that work? I have the key in my pocket....I place my hand on the door and the car should turn the alarm off and open? I've tried that and nothing happens.

Just because you have the "squares" does not mean you have the actual option / feature, which it looks like you don't.

in your boot area you will have a large white sticker with lots of 3 digit codes on it as well as your vehicles VIN number. These codes are called PR code (product codes). take a photo of said sticker than visit this site and type everything in to find out what you're vehicle has:

Alternatively, download the myAudi app. Register your vehicle. This will also detail all the extras / add-ons your vehicle is equipped with.
