Is there any advantage of the drp gearbox over the other v6 boxes? they seem to be a bit of a premium on them

Its alledged the ratios are better but not really noticed tbh...

The gear boxes are the earlier type with the tapered bearings...

I need to have a quick look at the R32 box seeing as it wasn't the cause of my issue and get rid... Did think of keeping it as a spare but tbh I don't have the space really

Just looking at a gear box of a y reg 4motion but not sure on the code but let me know if it works it’s way to the classified section, ive got my motivation back to get this moving

You can tell the drp’s from the others because they have the solid casing that is all alloy. Like your S3 one.

the “not so good” boxes have a couple of plastic caps held in with C clips.

I think you mean by 'not so good' you mean works fine but not as desirable as the DRP gearbox :) (killing my sales pitch here man!! lol)

Anyhoo... now that I can actually drive the car at last I have had a chance to get the VE table in a happy place...

Big thanks to Brian for his ninja log reading skills and assistance in this... the car drives nicely albeit at a pace that even the A2 would be potentially ashamed off... but she does sound rather awesome so I can live with that... for now!!..

Will be playing with VVT next as thats currently not enabled just because I can... not expecting much to be honest as the FMIC pretty much kills top end power at the moment but I don't really care...

I have some stuff to do on the A2 for now anyway so this will be it for the S3 for now... I have a few more odds and sods to get for the turbo conversion and a couple of bits to sort out how to implement but the conversion won't happen until the new year anyway..

So... as you may have noticed, power and torque isn't particularly spectacular... in fact Bills 3.2TT did 251hp/236ftlb the day before...

I am however running conservative timing low down and as of yet no VVT and these engines respond quite well to vvt low down so I am told... I am also running 8.9:1 cr and a short runner inlet manifold whilst breathing through 63mm pipework and a FMIC... not ideal for a normally aspirated engine :)

The power is where I expected tbh and this serves as a baseline for the next round of tuning which will of course lead to being turbocharged

Looks like a lot more room in the new shop, is it far from the old garage, when do you plan on starting the turbo conversion?

About 10 miles from the old workshop... its very big indeed... (fnarrr!)

Not sure when I will make a start on the turbo conversion as yet... I need to still try and split the hotside off my turbo so I can clock it correctly... and of course there needs to be enough space to have the car at Bill's for a bit while I do the work so will wait my turn...

I am not in any great hurry though and tbh I have quite a few other distractions going on at the moment that need my attention but it will get done when Bill has a space to accommodate me..

<tuffty/>

space, is something we will at least have in the new place..
time not so much with everything going on and the disruption the move inevitably causes.

We will get there tho :)

Nothing to report other than the throttle body died... I have been taking time away from the forum (amongst other things) for various reasons and the car has taken a bit of a back seat...

Poor old girl is parked up looking very sorry for herself at the moment... will need to swap out the throttle body before I can drive her as this little lot popped up the other week...

Not that I can drive the car anywhere of course at the moment but once things are a little more settled I hope to get on with fitting the turbo...

Had similar codes on mine when the spring broke internally in the R32 throttle body.

Sounds like the R32 throttle body is troublesome. Any better alternatives. PT, were you using an R32 throttlebody or the S5 one that you were using on your 1.8t build.

70mm V6 one... the TB's suffer similar issues tbh... replacement is ready to go on though

What else to do on a lovely sunny lockdown bank holiday... replace the faulty throttle body and get the old girl mobile again :)

Off with the front bumper and clip...
Tb001

Had to undo the aircon dryer hose to get a bit easier access seeing as I am doing this old skool outside the house stylee...
Tb002

Swapped out the throttle body...
Tb003

...and...

Yay!... need to wash her now... maybe tomorrow...

Took the old TB apart... the brush for the position pot is damaged...
Tb004

...and seems to have scratched up the tracks...
Tb005

...still... had a decent innings :)

Good work mate, I might actually get round to doing a few things on my car. Really want to tidy up the engine bay, etc.

After a good discussion with bruce, I’m gonna meth the hell out of the car apparently Ignitron should be able to act as a failsafe and controller for it.

Do you have a wiring diagram for the extra bits you added to the loom to where they connect on the ecu plug?

I have my scribblings in a spreadsheet for ignitron... this is a combo of using the 3.2TT small plug loom and the S3 1.8t large plug loom

I would take it as a guideline rather than gospel as there were a few gotchas with the T14 plug by the battery so your situation may be different...

Double and triple check by buzzing the wires out... I rewired the VR after run pump directly off the fan controller plug and extended the wiring for the S3 pump with a mind to relay this output to be able to safely run the VR and an S3 pump with the S3 pump being used to circulate coolant from the turbo if I need to do that as I haven't worked out where I am picking the cooling for the turbo up as yet.

Cheers, This is the worst part of the job for me I’ve even thought about trying to get it made up by someone

Its actually not too difficult tbh... you do have to add some extra wires in for sensors and N75 or just run those separately if you want an easier life...

I chose to integrate into the loom but you can mostly plug and play the TT part once addressing the T14 plug issues and run a separate loom to cover fuel/oil pressure and N75

<tuffty/>

Yeah... had to add MAP, N75 and IAT in as the VR doesn't have this as std... I also added the speedo sensor as the TT loom doesn't use it picking the signal up from the ABS... Ignitron also can do this but I wanted to have the choice to use either depending on what gearboxes I could get

In the loom I also added wiring for the oil/fuel pressure sensors picking up 5v from the MAF sensor supply

The grey section is the smaller ECU plug btw

The second tab has info on the T14 wiring but you should buzz these before committing as I noticed these to be different across several cars... the info there was relative to my AMK but VAG have a habit of changing things depending on options/trim levels...

Did you get your vband adapter from the uk or was it from the states? They all seem to be in the states or China

What style of injector does the vr use?

V-band adaptor for the wastegate...
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/44mm-V-B...Flange-Manifold-304-SS-Adp-w-GSK/183720089883

The turbo is one I have had made so have had the flange cut and using a Tial collector vband flange welded to it...

What style of injector does the vr use?

Based off that, EV14 xT.... needs the long nose... body looks a little short though...

<tuffty/>

Ok cheers il have to order one from the states, im looking for bigger injectors (770cc) just for if(more likely when) I go for the g30 900 and seen that chart on badger5 website for the 1000cc injectors

Bills 1000cc injectors are short body but long nose... he sells them with adaptors to allow the nose to fit a 20v bung...

When fitting your inlet manifold Did you use a gasket or some sealant?, I bought the original Seal but it doesn’t fit as the original manifold has a recess

I bought a 500mm x 500mm sheet from here
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121512541077

I also used high temp RTV sealant as I wanted to 'glue' it there to prevent boost blowing it out
