Rear disc change on a quattro ?

Rear discs and pads need changing on the BiTdi.
They are the 2EA variant / 320mm.

Lost my VCDS during house move so I have a Carista on order for EPB.

Question is....how difficult is the rear caliper carrier to remove ? Some say it’s difficult on the quattro as space is limited. Possibly able to remove disc with carrier in place (again some say it’s possible, others not).

Any tips and special tool advice much appreciated. Light has come on, so will tackle next week. Cheers

Plenty of room. Only thing limiting space is the driveshaft but it no way hinders working on the brakes. Dont mess around trying to remove disc with carrier in place. Just remove it and make it easier for yourself.
Just make sure you work safely and torque up the carrier bolts etc correctly.

I have 100nm plus 90 degrees for the carrier bolts ? Tried locating a new set of bolts, but Audi want you to buy the carrier as well

Ive always reused the originals. They are available separately N91126801 M12x62mm listed as upper and N91041702 m12x38 listed as lower.

All done - went to plan. Plenty of room as you say! Hardest part was jacking the thing up and placing onto axle stands - it's a sea of plastic under there!

One odd thing I did notice was the top caliper bolt on both sides. I couldn't work out why these would be used (see attached) - presume they are originals from factory.....but they don't show up like this on the diagrams!

Weighted bolts tend to be a crude form of damper to stop or move the frequency up the spectrum, of any issues the callipers might have due to their design.
