Couldn't think of another title, but today i set about sorting out the flashing lights on my dash! One was for the oil level sensor, the other was for dreaded red light oil pressure! I new both of them were just faulty sensors as the dash would only light up intermittently, but annoying never the less. Car was due its service anyway.
Started with the oil drain and filter change, easy. Then moved onto changing the oil pressure sensor. On the ASN engine its tucked up behind the oil cooler, no fun to get into! Got the clip off, and you need a 23mm deep socket, the sort you use with an impact wrench. It was annoying more than heard to remove, but putting it back on was worse. You cant see were your threading it into, but with blind luck you can get it in!
Next was the oil level sensor which is straight forward, but as i had an empty sump i thought i would remove it and check the oil strainer and general condition of the sump. Wasn't too bad, a few spots of dirty oil, but overall looked ok. I did have some concerns with the oil pickup. I sprayed brake cleaner into it to give it a good clean out, and a few flaky pieces fell out (pics below). Not sure what they are, they felt plastic, and very brittle? I kept spraying until it ran clear. Cleaned the sump pan up, replaced the oil level sensor, resealed the sump and refitted. Left to sure for an hour, filled the oil, and started. No more lights!!
Ill keep an eye on it this week but i think ill be ok, ne thing i did notice is i dont think my dipstick is the right one for the car, doesnt seem long enough, and it wasnt into the sump area when i removed the sump. Will need to check this, replaced oil was measured so its roughly right.
