Dealer issue - Haldex / rear differential

I get the distinct feeling that they are sorting it out themselves, when I asked whether my invoice (proof of previous service) was being sent to Audi Extended Warranty, she said they are 'sorting it out internally', translated into 'we know we messed up so we'll sort it out ourselves' I guess...

Now the dealer is asking me if I've got FSH!!! :wtf::wtf::wtf:They messed up the repair!
Well as long as you've had it serviced on time then you have, even using an indie with genuine parts it's still fsh.

Correct, sent the paperwork over and it's obviously been approved as work is being carried out tomorrow :icon thumright:

Apparently the car is ready, I'll collect tomorrow.
And it's even been washed!

 nooooo now you'll need a new paint job!!!

or a £500 detail.
I stopped letting the dealers clean my car after my first black a6. In the winter I saw them using what looked liked a big brush in a dirty bucket.took me 6 hours of polishing to get it looking good again. It would have been worse than the jet wash brushes at the supermarkets. At least those brushes squirt water/foam so kinda self cleaning.
I still let them vacuum the car cause I hate doing that.

@HertS3 - really hope it’s fixed for you this time and you can get back to driving the car.

Does question whether the previous camshaft work was necessary, not to mention how it was given the all clear to be released aback to you when your indie picked up pretty quickly that is wasn’t right and the latter sounds like a solid garage.

I think that the work must've been necessary as the ECU was showing some camshaft related errors when the car came in with the knackered rear diff. In any case, new parts can't be a bad thing (hopefully!).

By the way, the car was towed to the indie so as not to cause any further damage to other parts, hence my suspicion that the car can't have been road tested as was claimed on the paperwork (along with the non-existent wash that took place and the oil marks left on the engine).
Picking it up today, fingers crossed!

Got the car back this morning, had a bit of a hiccup as the 'internal invoice' said £46 odd on it which they tried charging me (lady dealing with me was off today), quick word with the manager and they confirmed everything is fine and off I went.

Car seems fine so far, see how it goes!

Typical - health check paperwork indicates oil level at 25% with a cross next to it but wasn't mentioned to me when I picked the car up. It was at 100% at the first health check when it came in for the rear diff and the car hasn't even covered 100 miles since then! So they've clearly drained the oil somewhat and not replaced it...
And also the brake pads have gone down 20% since then too!

oil could be when and who checked it. If it was checked right after it was driven then the dipstick could read high. Could even be uneven ground.
Brake pads is subjective. They stick a camera between alloys and have a quick look and guess the percentage. Gone are the days when they take wheel off and clean brakes during a service.
I also could be talking crap and they’ve been ragging your car to death and launching it to make sure everything is working.

I checked it with slightly warm oil (around 60 C) and it did come up around the 25% mark on the dipstick, so I've shoved approx. half a litre in and will check it later, should be OK

Is it all good now?

They have taken a bit of oil out of every car they have in and share it around services....:whistle2: One less expense for them haha

 wtf turning into a right nightmare this!
Nah should be fine, I spoke to my colleague (original owner from new) and she says she thinks the car is still on the original rear pads!

Maybe they took the oil level measurement before it had had a chance to all drained back into the sump. Dunno.

Seemed low to me when I checked the dipstick with a warm engine. Just checked it now with cold engine and there were oil marks way above the lines!!! Used my oil pump at top of dipstick level and nothing came out so I know I didn't overfill it :)
Will check it again with warm engine and seems impossible to tell oil level with a cold engine!

Yep, the guy sounded like a top man so I'm not surprised they do the job properly. Main dealer charges an arm and a leg and doesn't even do a proper job. Paperwork said complimentary wash and vacuum included but it was in the same state it was a month ago when it was towed over!

Mine went in for the coolant check light on, couldn't find anything but got a healthcheck as well - Tyres 5mm on one and 6mm on the other 3 - spacesaver 4mm

I thought this is very unlikely as done 15000 miles and when I had a software update done in the summer I checked them with my friend who is a mastertech and they were at 4.5 then

When the car was handed back was told you're tyres are all good for the winter - Checked them the following weekend - Averaged 3mm across all 4 - just had them all replaced - Plus mastertech friend confirmed you don't even get 4mm on a spacesaver (Never been on)

As my wife said if she'd picked the car up on her own she would have thought that's good for the winter then and would have been driving around on rubbish tyres

Very poor and could have had bad consequences

Just got a call from service department after my email complaining about lack of oil, apparently the master tech who worked on my car  said that no oil was lost during the camshaft work, difference in levels showing may be due to different oil temperature when tested both times, nothing to worry about, car will tell you when oil needs topping up.

If you can get under the front of the car and remove the under-tray, it's definitely worth checking this isn't a leaking pump/thermostat. I had exactly the same response when I took mine in. This was after noticing my coolant dropping. Had a couple of weeks of warranty left, so thought I'd get it checked and sorted before that expired. Wasn't my usual dealer, was only in for an MOT - "nothing to worry about, and we've topped it up for you"

Skip forward 9 months, the car's up on a lift and I see the tell-tale signs of dry coolant on the front edge of the oil pan. Took it into my usual dealer with this extra info and they confirmed a leak in the thermostat regulator housing. From the amount of residue all down the front of the engine, this was almost certainly the case back in March and it just wasn't checked properly, or at all.

I did think about it, but as my mate is a mastertech he looked over it as well (he didn't do the tyre check) - They pressure tested it for 4 hours as well - I'd had some funny smells when I got the car out the garage a couple of times and the level was down - Hasn't moved since I topped it up

I have 18months warranty left so I'll keep an eye on it

... - Hasn't moved since I topped it up

Ah ok, great. Good to have a friend like that. Nice one! :)

FWIW - The level on mine hadn't moved in the 9 months since they topped it up. So it was a super slow leak. I also didn't have the coolant smell that others have identified.

NP - Going to have a look up in the front of mine at the weekend. See what's new. Will try and get a pic of where you need to look.

Sorry for thread hijack... Maybe I'll post the pics on the ongoing thread that someone already has running.

Had a chat with Audi UK, I'm going to revive the debate regarding the rear diff with the dealer as an official complaint. I'll invite them to inspect the disassembled part should they wish to do so. Not sure I'll get anywhere but I'll damn well try!

I had one of those after my service price match argument with them. Was quite nice being able to give them the lowest possible score!

Just to keep you guys in the loop, after speaking to Audi Customer Services who advised that the dealer (I might as well call them out - Audi Hatfield) will not reconsider their position with regards to accusing the indie of draining the differential oil and they are closing their file.

I have therefore now referred the matter to the Motor Ombudsman as the dealer participates in their scheme.

Let's see how that goes.
