I'm currently leasing an Audi A6 45tfsi sport, but I think that's a really excellent price for a 40 TDI Black Edition with lots of bells and whistles. I guess what it points to is that large saloons just aren't that fashionable any more with the move to 4wds and cross-overs. I don't see a lot of new Audi A6 saloons around but I think it's a really excellent vehicle.

I’ve just ordered the A6 with the 45TFSI and would be interested on your opinion of the engine and performance. I’m changing from an S3 so not expecting too much but interested hearing from someone who has one.

I love it. That being said, my previous cars were a 2009 Leon 1.4TSI 125hp and a 2010 Benz E250CGI 1.8T 206hp which I thought was pretty nippy, but the 45TFSI definitely has a better kick and overall feel to it. Still won’t feel as agile nor be as fast as your S3, but the 45TFSI is far from not being fast enough in my opinion.

I thought £12k off our Avant 45TFSI was a good deal. That’s cracking!

I understand that people more often than not buy cars with their hearts rather than heads, but to get a roughly equivalent SUV would cost north of £40k after discounts looking at a Q5. I strongly suspect most buyers don’t actually need the extra boot space afforded by the SUV body style - though if they did they could get the Avant and still save thousands on an equally (if not more) practical car.

I don’t really get it.

As MCarda says, it’s fast enough and if you’re not expecting much you’ll be pleasantly surprised. I don’t think most people would want for more power in a car that size and weight with its level of refinement.

Well said. More than enough power for its purpose. If I was looking for something purely fun I would have gotten something something smaller and lighter. I believe my 1.8 tonne boat with its power level still brings plenty of smiles to my face but not so many miles to the gallon. I average 18mpg in central London and 38mpg out in the open road.

Thanks all, my S3 probably returns a higher MPG, but sounds like I won’t be too disappointed with the engine and I’m looking forward to the refinement after 2 years of the S3 ownership.

My 45TFSi has a slightly wafty feeling to it in a good way and is extremely refined. It encourages relaxed and stress-free but still fast motoring. The engine's very torquey, smooth and quiet and feels much bigger than 2 litres (two people have assumed it's 4.5 liters!). It's never very dramatic but has more than enough oomph for overtaking - I've been pleasantly surprised. Overall economy is 34mpg on my first 1,000 miles, but that's a mixture of mostly country and motorway miles.

The DSG transmission is pretty much impeccable. It's occasionally slow to engage from park and may take a second to kick down on overtaking. The only odd bit is that you have to push the lever forward to reverse and backwards to go forwards, which seems counter-intuitive. It doesn't feel big to drive and the electric power steering is very accurate. It feels very much like my previous Audi A4, perhaps with a hint more wallow.

The only thing I don't like about the car are the standard seats on my Sport version. The cushion's too short and can't be tilted upwards. I'm getting used to them but they'll never be completely comfortable for me. I made a mistake not upgrading to the sports seats but I was trying to avoid options on my lease.

I got 12 grand off 50 grand list. Fully specified 50, 13 miles on the clock...from an Audi dealer. Road tax is v high at £435 per year but economical, 40 mpg since new, 32 around town, 50 on motorways. Downside is, it is difficult to find long enough parking slots and windows not tinted. Other than that, fine.

Anyone know any good tinting outfits, Wirral/Liverpool/Manchester ?

Oh yes, the parking worries. My Avant measures in at 4.94m in length and standard parking space lengths are 4.8m long apparently. Here in central London that is far from ideal so good thing I am moving out to the suburbs soon.

I bought this! Would have preferred black seats, but I can live with the grey given the price
:chuncky:

Now I just need to work out if I continue with the PCP or pay it down and pay the car off in full.......if its worth more than about £17k in 3 years with 45k miles I'm best off buying outright. Any views on likely residuals?!

What I'd like to know - are the cheap-ish offers pre-registered ? If so, it may have warranty implications (warranty starts at registration) and insurance implications. The latter an Audi dealer tried to ignore my and concerns and told me that this isn't true.

Fact is all car insurances I had so far offer a brand new car if the car is stolen or totalled within the first year. Which, however, only applies to first owners.

If a dealer buys a car to get his manufacturer bonus and registers it, you lose part of the warranty (which the dealer I THINK could extend) and the insurance feature.

The latter is usually solved with a gap insurance. The gap insurance you get at Audi, as far as I know, doesn't cover like for like cover. So you need to look at something else if you're worried.

I just noticed an offer on carwow - I think it was an A6 Vorsprung, with nearly 25k off. When I dug through it it wasn't just pre-registered, but it was pre-registered over a year ago so you'd end up with a cheap car but a cheap car that could develop all sorts of issues due to standing in the yard for over a year.

Bottom line. You need to do your research and not be afraid of walking away.

As someone say, a lot of people buy with their heart not head. Don't do it.

Oh and another trick a lot of people seem to do. Deal sites like carwow offer cheaper deals under PCP due to the Audi deposit of £4k. Sometimes the difference is even bigger PCP Vs. Cash.

I could be beneficial to buy the car on PCP, get the nice deal and once you got the car, use the 14 day cool off or pay off in full. This way you keep your discount and have a car paid in full. If that's your goal.

I bought an A6 Avant from Audi pre- registered that had sat in the showroom for six months with 13 miles on the clock. I bought it for 12k under list. Plus I bought gap insurance from Audi which covers me for the price I paid. Yes, I lost the first six months of warranty but the car drives fine. So don’t worry.

I was the first registered owner. As far as I’m aware, drivethedeal don’t offer pre-registered cars and the 2 I have bought through them have been seem less transactions!
