That 15.5 miles is my nearest shell that has a guaranteed v power. Still gotta go another 5 miles back on myself to get to work

Am I mistaken? I think that counter is the number one mileage reading.
Doesn’t range have a fuel icon next to it?
Can’t be bothered to go out to the garage to check though :whistle2:

This thread is about how far I had to go just to get shell v power from where I live. In total I did just over 20 miles from home to the petrol station and to work which was back the same way I came from. 15.5 miles out and 4.7 back to work. I'm on stage 2 and been advised to stick with V power. Not about tank range. Sorry if I've confused anyone.

People who have S3's should put high octane fuel in as standard.
It shows preferred octane rating as the first number......

Not my pic by the way. Aren't there any other fuel stations closer ie Tesco's Asda ect? To be honest I only put V power in the tank for the first couple of years ownership. Then changed to Tesco's Momentom 99 octane. Didn't notice any difference in using either other than Momentom is much cheaper than V power.

I was using tesco momentum. When I got it mapped I did fill it with tesco. When I went back to Turner race developments and I mentioned I'd filled with tesco, I thought I was going to have to get the defibrillator out. They said no way. Tesco is 95 with additives to make 99. So v power at 145.9 it is.

Wow...Didn't know that. To be fair I've been running Momentum now for two years and no issues...Will have to look into it and see what's what. Cheers buddy:icon thumright:

My brother took his ST to some tuning place in West Yorkshire, they said Momentum is virtually the same as V Power

Well did a bit of searching on the net and have come to the conclusion that there is no noticeable difference between Shell and Tesco's performance fuels...
Seems that they all get fuel from the same refineries and the only difference is the amount of Ethanol they put into the mix. Uk law states they have to provide fuel to a specific standard. the result therefore is really not noticeable between both types of fuel.....There have I'm sure been many a discussion on this forum about which is best as there are on many other forums. So best not start another one again lol.
All I can say to @Leevr is give other fuel brands a go.:thumbs up:

I’ve used Vpower since the day I bought the car and there’s 3 shell garages 6miles from me so it’s great. There’s been a few times when I’ve been down to 20 miles but don’t like running it low anyway. Sometimes it’s unavoidable.

£1.45 ! That’s what we pay around here for normal unleaded. Unless we travel 10 to 15 miles round trip to a supermarket.

I think the S3 has a couple of liters in reserve (from when it says 0 miles left). This is based on how much fuel I've consistently managed to get into what should be a 55 litre tank from pretty much empty. Not that I ever intend to test that theory out. Since remapping I dont let mine go below 3rd of a tank after reading someone getting similar advice from a tuner when their car threw up the odd fuel related code. If it goes down to 2 lights then I don't boot it at all. Fortunately I live just 4 miles from a tesco :)

Always used Tesco 99 or equivalent and never had issues with any of my cars. At least 10p per litre premium for V Power, no thanks!

The are a few threads on MPG. In summary it depends how you drive and your typical journey. Some are only getting 250 miles from a tank, where as others (myself included) are closer to 400. The lowest I've ever had from a tank is about 350. Mine is a stage 2 tune but I don't boot it that often. My daily commute which accounts for the majority of that mileage is mostly done sat behind everyone else doing 50 to 60mph. On the occasions I give it some beans the car absolutely drinks it, though.

Your looking at up to say £75 per tank with v power. I also average 300 miles per tank.

Gotta say at no point whist getting to stage 2 did I ever stop and think or care about fuel consumption. It uses it, I fill it. I'm happy. Were all happy. Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it and put my foot down. Money well spent.

I drive maybe 1/2 mile to my closest Shell Station and another is also less than a mile from my house.

And 70 with that ''better diesel'' which I tried only once haha

I get around 450 miles per tank in my standard A3 tdi150 quattro. The Skoda VRS (stage1, 205bhp) gets around 480 - 500 miles per tank normally but it's less if it's just buzzing around town. Best in VRS on a run up to the highlands was 55.65mpg average over the tank (brim to brim).

I walk a mile and a half to the garage and back with a jerrycan. It's good exercise, and I'm saving my little bit of the planet too.

It makes me feel less guilty about driving everywhere with the engine bouncing off the limiter.

That's fair enough, and is the reason I went for the S3 rather than an older RS5. I didnt want a car that cost a bomb to run just plodding along or when sat on the driveway (tax). The S3 can be very economical if you want it to be, in fact it's the most economical petrol car I've ever owned by far, except for our 1 litre seat ibiza which the kids drive (and I do sometimes, getting 50 plus mpg out of it).

What’s the science behind the additives being bad? I thought people who run 100+ octane use momentum/V power + additives?

Additives contain metals which damage catalytic converters.
Lead additives were banned years ago. In some countries, they were replaced by manganese based additives, but these also damage catalytic converters but just more slowly. Most countries have now banned manganese and iron additives for this reason.

Octane booster additives have never been used in UK unleaded fuel. However, they were banned a few years ago by EU law.

Tesco 99 is a different blend of fuel to the 95 stuff (more unsaturated and aromatic). V power gets its higher octane the same way (blended with more unsaturated and aromatic hydrocarbons), although the supply chain is different.

Wow!!......where do you live, Richard? I’m currently paying around 123.7p/litre for normal unleaded at Asda or Sainsbury’s at Fareham, Hampshire :icon thumright:
