Hi folks, anyone got a CTEK Charger connected ? Can I ask how you have fitted it ? Permanently so you just disconnect the plug but leave the other end permanently fitted ? Cigarette lighter socket in the boot ?
Also would the MXS 5.0 Test and Charge be ok with the Start Stop Battery, or will I need the specific start/stop charger.

I sort of want a semi permanent set up, but the engine just has posts and nothing to put eyelets on, the socket in the boot would be ideal, but can it be used for charging ? also can you shut the boot or bonnet properly without it causing damage to the boot seal for example.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can give.

The charging leads I’ve attached to the jump points with 6mm bolts and nuts for a permanent connection.
When I use the car I place these leads behind ecu/fuse box

Thanks for the reply DW. Do you have to drill the posts or are the holes already there ( sorry, I havent checked or am able to until the weekend)? Also where do you trail the wire out, and does the bonnet still shut ?

Thanks for your reply Jimo. I might do this as the socket in the garage is where the back of the car is, as above where do you trail the wire out from ? and does the boot close with it connected?

Hi Nicky, I managed to utilise one of the holes on the positive plate, I had to drill a hole on the negative one, will take a pic tonight and show you mate

On the odd occasion i've used mine, i clip it onto the front positive and earth points.

Did look at connecting directly to the battery in the rear, however when i did the research i'm sure it was suggested somewhere (possibly in the owners manual) that the front points should only be used for charging etc.....

Only takes seconds to clip onto the points.

AGM stop start battery is fine to charge with the CTEK charger.

Thanks T,

So would charging via the boot accessory plug cause an issue do you think if plugged in for a long period ?

Yes boot closes fine. Sorry i will try and get a picture. Keep forgetting :)

Update:
Connects to the battery and just tucks round the boot floor nicely.

I have a small garage and can’t access the back of the car when it’s parked and didn’t want to open and close the bonnet every time I park the car either. Mine goes on charge every time it goes in, so would be a pain whereas some people only use them for longer term storage.

I bought the slightly longer lead that has the charge indicators on the plug (I don’t take any notice of that).

This is what I settled on, it doesn’t flap around at all when driving and is very accessible to plug in to my charger on the wall. It goes up through a slot already in the plenum chamber cover and then up through the outlet where the screenwash bottle is. It’s not the prettiest but it’s practical and you don’t see it unless you’re looking.

Mercedes also rebrand the Ctek chargers, they are a popular charger. I have the larger 10A version as well as a 5A MXS.

Thanks, much appreciated. Is that connected to the battery directly ?

Yes connected straight to the battery terminals. It just about reaches both sides and can be bolted to the clamps. :)

Thanks, I think I might just get the cig lighter socket to attach to the boot socket.

Was in Mercedes Stockport looking at the A45s and noticed all the showroom cars have CTek chargers.

Hey now ;) For us with additional battery drains from after they left factory ;)

Worth doing to prolong the battery life, heard they need to be coded to the cars these days when changed? I’ve got VCDS now but still.

I've told you to run the engine when you plug your Sybian in the fag lighter socket.
