Hi guys my A6 Allroad 2005 2.5 TDI has been using a bit of water for about 2 months I have had issues with the interior lights, door locks & now the transmission has started to malfunction as in when I select drive all the lights come on the dash ( P R N D S) all light up & the gears won't change until I switch off the ignition remove key then restart the car it's OK but after a few miles the dash lights come on namely the ESP, ABS, Suspension although the car drives OK . Any help would be much appreciated.

Maybe need to check under the carpet in the passenger front footwell. The transmission control unit is housed inside a plastic housing but its not water right. Water may have gathered inside the chamber that houses your battery. There is a drain plug which can choke up with leaves and block up. Water builds up inside then can run past the pollen filter housing which is at the right hand side of the chamber as you look into the engine bay. There is also a seal around the pollen housing which can need resealed. If the seal is in good condition is should prevent water coming in.
Water can run down inside the car into the footwells, causing a myriad of electrical problems. There is also a control unit under the drivers floor which can suffer the same fate. If your problems have only just started and it is water, you might catch it before it's too late.
You will need to lift the carpet to check as just feeling the carpets from above doesn't always feel wet. They are very thick

I have just this minute checked under the passenger foot well & it feels dry although i have not removed the carpet just the door trim & poked my hand under the carpet but have not done the same to drivers side. the fact that it seems to be using water recently maybe the heater is at fault , could this do the same as the drain holes you mention? Thanks for your reply .
Sorry I was more suggesting this was cause of transmission warnings, not coolant leaking into the vehicle. Coolant leak anyone's guess. Worst case I've seen a few mentions of head gaskets going on these engines. If you have a look around engine bay for sign of leakage, if you know what your looking for. Otherwise, get it into a garage for proper inspection and perhaps a pressure test. Catch it before it's a breakdown scenario.

Thanks guys I have traced the coolant leak to the expansion Tank but can't seem to find correct tank using the parts link could anyone help with correct part number for tank please the reg is KS05 MVM Many thanks
