Hello Everyone,

I’ve decided to retrofit my ‘05 8P from Halogen to Xenon Headlights.

I’ve read from many posts but im not sure if what it want is possible so here I am to ask:

I want to:

Buy xenon headlights (not bi-xenon) like OEM from a normal shop like Autodoc

Use aftermarket bulbs and ballasts

Is it possible to get it work by coding on vcds (activate Xenon) and get no errors? Or I have to do something more?

Im afraid to spend about 300€ in headlights and failing to get the lights working…

Wiring, coding & correct module version.

300 euros is cheap.

Your choice but I always do it factory for headlights & most installs I do tbh.

I know and I would prefer it too if I could...
My only question is that if is possible using aftermarket ballasts, the headlights will be OEM

Why would you not want to use factory bulbs and ballasts?
Aftermarket ballasts can fry the wiper motor on A3’s which is why it is one model of car that you should never fit an HID kit to!
If you want single xenons do as NHN says and fit Genuine Automotive Lighting xenon headlights off an 05-06 A3 (later cars are bi-xenon) and just code them in .
That’s what I did , with new D2S Osram Cool Blue Intense bulbs , no errors and no fried wiper motor....

Do I need Xenon module too? Or its the same as ballasts?

OEM ( Automotive Lighting) headlights have the ballast screwed underneath the headlight and should come complete with them
if purchasing secondhand .
Just a case then of fitting headlights & coding them in.

Not here... In second hand they're more expensive than brand new and without ballasts so they can sell them separately...

So I assume this is all I need:

Headlights (OEM) single xenon
OEM Ballasts
Coding

After this I will not have problem with wiper motor?

Hello guys, so I bought everything to retrofit single xenon but I still need to buy OEM ballasts. Someone knows what are the correct ballasts for these headlights? (they are new and didn't came with ballasts)

Left: OEN 8P0 941 029 M or OEN 8P0 941 029 P

Right: OEN 8P0 941 030 M or OEN 8P0 941 029 P

I noticed recently there is huge aftermarket choice for the (quite rare) OE single xenon headlights now, never noticed these in the past. Even the bi-xenon S3 headlights are going cheap(ish) new without ballasts and bulbs.

The single xenon work just as the halogen light setup, using the standard 10-pin headlight plug so no change in wiring from what I understand, just code to xenon with additional hi-beam in central electrics (this will stop the strobing and proper bulb-detection). It's quite easy to adapt any OE-spec D2S ballast, I used some from a BMW afaik years ago without issues.

Thanks for the help, I've already bought the ballasts and they arrived yesterday.
Another question, it is mandatory use a ignitor? Or the lights will work with no problem?

Can someone help? Im really confused, do I need ignitors too or just ballast + xenon lamp?
