Hes on this forum lol, but I agree re a few of his points. 2nd gear is annoying in sports sitting at high revs until about 30mph and the chavs you get trying to race you. Also interesting re the oil...my car is 4th months old, brand new....checked oil due to his video....like no oil left!!!!! Lucky I checked didn’t feel I needed to

Looks like I’ll be giving the oils a check over the weekend to be be sure then

Yes, this engine don't half like a drop of oil. 7000 miles in mine when I checked the other day and I did a double take...not a spec of oil on the dipstick. I'll be checking on a monthly basis now.

Brake squeak is simple to fix
Tyres are tracking if inside edge is bare, if you got more the 10k mileage i would surprised
DSG Audi map is crap get it remapped and learn to drive a DSG properly
Oil usage is bad but my S3 uses between 1&2 litres between services every 10k

Maybe we should have a sticky post, everyone checks their oil 1st of month

Just looked at mine full at 2000 miles

Most people I've spoke to with high performance VAG cars say they have to top their oil up quite often.

I wouldn't say mine is burning as much as this guys but to be fair I probably only check it every 2 months or so.

I would like to think there's more than enough engine protection to stop you blowing up or damaging it if this is a common thing so constantly worrying about the car will just make you dislike it if things start going wrong.

I also suffer from the brake squeal periodically but I've always just assumed this is because of a build up of brake dust and grit because if you then drive it very hard for a bit and get the brakes hot, the squeal disappears for a few weeks.

It's pretty common for high performance cars to drink a lot of oil, especially if you drive it hard.

Agree, oils cheap, buy it, check it regularly and top it up, what’s to moan about. 40k+ motor vs 100 quids worth of oil per year no brainer. Surprised me when he said he had owned an s3 as they do the same. I check my tyres regularly as well

Have to agree haha, that was painful to watch. Turbo lag in D? How about the car is in it's most efficient gear for that speed so yes you won't have ideal acceleration coming out of a corner, that's what manual/S is for. It's like driving a manual car and going round a bend in at 35 mph in 5th gear and wondering why it isn't accelerating.

Totally the DSG brain is clever but not as good as your own eyes and brain (if he had one). Read the road, get the DSG box to preselects the gear you want using the accelerator and use manual, duh.

Mine Always knows when’s it’s going down hills and selects lower gears.

Love it now I know how to drive it, can’t drive it like a manual and never lift off pedal when changing

Oil consumption test will be a waste of time, audi only say its faulty if it consumes over 1L or oil per 1000kms. (620 ish miles). Assuming he’s topped up 7 litres in 10,000 miles he’s well under the scope.

I have severe ADHD. I tried to speed through it to get his five points but all I could gather is that he has a gripe against Audi drivers... Maybe someone could help me out and list his five complaints please.:help:

He actually posted about this a few days ago - if you look down...

https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/weird-tyre-wear-on-rs3-fl.375659/

Ah - it is him, yes? Well if one of his gripes is Audi dealers, then I think we are all ahead of him here..:thumbs up:

And from comments here, oil is another gripe? Yep, I am with him on this, but it is a performance engine so I think poor consumption goes with the territory.

Some of you are a tad harsh about the lad, he’s just making a few YouTube videos, don’t think he’s out to be critiqued. Give the guy a break.

Not a bad video. I mean when you say 5 things to hate there not all that bad. Well apart from the dealer one... I'm dreading having to have the first service never mind a warranty issue

I get the warranty thing and getting what you paid for at 40 odd k but we know dealers are rubbish, just check car regularly, tracking is 25 quid and you get a report, tyres are cheaper elsewhere and as I said oil is cheap, brake pads won’t break the warranty, just use the dealer when it really goes wrong

The 2nd gear in sport thing is also on the S3 too. It's just Audi have mapped it. I find the manual mode limitations more annoying like you can't shift up to 2nd under 10 MPH when in Auto mode it'll shift before that, even in sport sometimes. Makes manual mode so clunky.

I only use D in start stop traffic, traffic light queues, road works etc, then manual after it’s in second, S is good on motorways at higher speeds

I've had a few DSG boxes now. This one is probably the best (stock mapping). Do find the double up/down change if holding paddle/shifter annoying - catches me out sometime when driving casually in M.

As for warranty - Yeh it's a shame to feel like it's easier to fix an issue yourself than taking it to a main dealer.

My only real issue is what sounds like the rattly exhaust (when cold, not cold start) but I know full well it would be one of those back and forth banging my head on the wall visits .

My rs has not drank anymore oil in the two changes that I’ve done this year so far. Is this because it’s the new design in engine perhaps? My TTS, well that was another thing altogether.
I find the dsg box a fantastic bit of kit, as it’s own quirks at times but like most on here like to drive it in manual all the time as the car really comes alive especially when spirited driving around some great B roads early morning.

I develop fuel additive and oil modification technologies for a living and I often encounter customers with oil consumption issues. More often than not, following the manufactures recommended engine run-in instructions is detrimental to an engine. I will be writing a paper on this later in the year but to get to the main points:

1. I have discussed this at length with notable experts in the industry including a Metallurgy Professor and we both do not fully understand why manufacturers still insist on engine break-in periods when the bore honing process undergoes a 2nd hone that essentially provides almost instant piston ring seal on virtually all modern engines. Our only conclusion is that a run-in period enables the user to get used to the vehicle, help bed in brakes and transmission components etc.

2. Oil consumption IS detrimental to combustion quality and will reduce engine power as it impacts the effective RON and MON of the fuel. It will also accelerate carbonaceous deposits on the inlet valves. Although not nearly as important on forced induction engines as on NA engines, it still presents a discernible reduction in performance.

I would ask for a compression and leak down test.

With regards to to engine oil quality there isn't much difference between the VW 504/507 approved oils. The main additive pack for this oil comes from the same sources. My professional view is that it could be much better but the design specifications/parameters prevent an improved oil because it would then fall out of specification and thus would not carry the approval. The point being that VW 504/507 is both good and bad by design.

I will check my oil later.

But is there not a low oil indication on the dash ??

Should be a low warning but most don't like waiting for this.

One thing I like about the Q7 is you can read the oil level via the MMI app on your phone.

Ok cheers.

Will still check manually.

Had the RS for 10months with 4000miles and no low oil indication yet!

When a low engine oil warning light appears you are advised to stop the engine immediately and top up and this is not always convenient! Checking manually and keeping it topped up before it reaches a dangerously low point is always the best way.

How many on here can vouch for his last point on here with regards to other road users, now commuting everyday in it I totally agree on his past point.

This was about all I could get from his video on a speed read of it. And yes, I will agree on this if he is in the UK. I say this as I find car snobbery/envy (where there is snobbery, there will be envy) is at its worse in the UK, whereas where I am in a relatively poor area of France it is the opposite - in fact sometimes it is quite embarrassing the amount of people who want to look all over the car! Germany on the other hand I find quite neutral, and as everyone pretty well has a 'good' car, there is a healthy respect for those with slightly better 'good' cars.

Had a drive yesterday and this 50ish year old woman in an old corrolla wouldn't move over on the dual carriageway to let me pass, eventually after a good few miles she went into the left lane and as I went to pass she starting coming into my lane to try push me into some cones (there's roadworks in the central reservation), stupid b****, honked at her and she did the same!!

+1, I wouldn’t have the confidence to make a video like that

I've never had squeaky brakes so can't comment on that issue, and haven't noticed excessive oil consumption but will double check my oil later.

Not good that the car was delivered with clearly mis-aligned wheels but if they're still delivering these cars on P-Zeros then it's really no wonder you can't get 10k miles out of them, especially if they're mis-aligned.

The gearbox point is pretty stupid IMO. The entire point of having the gearbox in D/Comfort is that its smoother and more docile, and it isn't turbo lag, it's just the transmission. I too find S2 in town to be obnoxious but as soon as the roads open up, put it in manual or S.

Regarding the attention, yes the car gets plenty of it but you don't have any control over other road users and what their behaviour is. Just ignore them.

Think this guy made some S3 videos a while back. Nothing wrong with the videos but most stuff he would know if he did the research, same with the S3 ones.

Though i had the dreaded brake squeal , .... was just a cat.. sorry. Speed bump

Well.. this is awkward

Not sure how I haven't seen this thread sooner! With this particular video I was scrapping the barrel for things I hate about the car, being honest it was a trend at the time to make these 'hate' videos and I was jumping on the bandwagon. It started out as me making videos because I enjoyed editing them and it gave me an excuse to be creative and although I still enjoy making them I've also built up a little community in my comments and on Instagram which is nice. I appreciate you guys not tearing me apart for them because some of my older videos are awful!

I absolutely love my car. A quick update; the oil consumption isn't so bad now, it turned out the car had a slight leak which an Audi dealer wasn't able to find on 3 separate visits and ever since I moved to Yellowstuff pads the brake squeal went away.

Ps, I just posted a 2 year update :)
