My s3 v6 build

Also been offered a hpa short runner practically same as the ebay one but probably better quality and it’s cheaper than the ebay one but I’m not sold that it will be any better

Double check what engine thats for.... the 3.2 has larger ports... that one in the picture looks more like a 2.8 or maybe a 12v?

He tells me it’s of a r32 but it’s in Greece think il leave it and put the £280 to something else

When stripping the head do I have to make sure that the springs go back to the same valves they came off?

Cheers Got all new valves to go in so will be ordering the new guides aswell

Managed to spend an hour stripping the head down just got the exhaust valves to do and can send it for skimming not looking forward to try and put the collets back though, fiddly little things is there any special tool for that? what’s the best way to to get the valve guides out?

You leave that to the pros dude... will be part of them doing the guides... they need pressing out/in and reaming... ideally they ask for a valve (in/ex) to size up for reaming... chances are they won't need doing at all as NA engines don't wear as quick as turbo engines..

not looking forward to try and put the collets back though, fiddly little things is there any special tool for that?

I normally use a terminal screwdriver thats magnetised to place them and a bit of stainless or aluminium weld rod to fiddle them in... a little bit of grease or assembly lube will help with sticking them to the stem...

If you are replacing with supertechs then the single groove collets are a little fiddlier

Ok cheers il get on the phone get see when they can get it in,I’m glad I didn’t order any now then but it going to have to wait the new valves are not due till the 18th

I assume you have made a note of all the cam caps as they will need to go back in the same places they came off... can't mix them up

Will look into one off them don’t like leaving it uncovered as it’s full of parts

managed to get the exhaust valves out that’s the head all stripped now Just waiting on valves to send the head off and wait for block and head to come back, not much else to do apart from clean a. Few things up that I’ve left to soak in brake cleaner for the night

Went to drop a few more parts in the cleaner and do a bit of a stock take and when putting this it to cleaner noticed it has a plastic o ring with a mesh and the mesh is ripped in two, have looked on etka and it doesn’t show a part number for the washer, hope i hints not a new cover needed as they are $1400 ( I think I got a price off £450 plus vat of tps but I might be wrong and that was for a different part) and that would be seriously depressing having to fork that out for the sake of a washer/filter but etka doesn’t show a part number for the filter

Do the cam cap studs really need replacing Jesus £5 each doesn’t sound bad but there’s 24 of the things. It’s the little things you wouldn’t expect to be expensive all seem to Add up quickly seems crazy complaining about £120 when spending 1000’s I know

I didn't... They are m8's so are a little sturdier than 20v bolts... Torque is nothing on them so they will be fine

torque is 10lbs ft oh that good news, think I’ve found another vvt unit as the little filter doesn’t seem to be available, I’ve messaged every tt,r32,Porsche and touareg breaker non have one for sale without buying the head, but have found one of a 2.8 4motion for £50 The only thing is the last letter is different but looks identical so at least will have spare control valve even if I just use the rubber it they are different

Supertech valves arrived today, dropped the head off today for skim, clean and new stem seals, valves guides checked and don’t need replacing which is good news

All the videos I’ve seen on lapping valves they all seem to use permatex prussian blue, is there anything else that can be used that can be picked up locally so I can crack on tomorrow

BUY IT! BUY IT NOW!!!

I passed on it with it being the same as the ebay one I have didn’t see the point and I’m planning on buying the new version later in the year

Started lapping the valves and try to get them fired, not ashamed to say the 1st one nearly broke me a good half and hour trying to fit the 1st 2 keepers kept falling of sussed it in the end and the other short intakes flew in, @IanPG im sure I remember you saying that it’s a lot easier working on this than the 1.8t, if that’s the case I’m not looking forward to rebuilding that when it comes out that 1st one is tight, started to do the long intake valves noticed it sticks out slightly on one corner, is this normal @<tuffty/> did yours look similar I hope they haven’t to too much off in the skim! With the spacer gasket adding a little room just worried they might hit the piston

Oh thank god for that, them ****** supertech keepers, had one left over so checked the bag and it say 12 keepers so I’m think crap have I fitted one of the old ones!( I now know it is isn’t possible as I checked an old one on the new valve just to check I wasn’t going mental) Panic kicks in,! So decided to count how many are in the unopened packs all of them had 13 in even though the pack says 12 so that was another bum twitching moment when I though I was going to have to strip it all, haHa

I never actually did this part of stripping the head. Re lapping etc. I bought all my bits and bobs engine with the head in a thick plastic bag clearly cleaned and skimmed - you guys are doing next level **** haha

re - pistons hitting. - you won’t have to worry. You will see when the wonky pistons go in. There’s space.

the manifold can be used with original throttle body positioning or as a short runner with left or right entry
I wasn’t planning to go this far originally I was going to open it up and just change rods as a precaution next thing I know it’s a case of “ while I’m at it I might as well do this n do that” Had a hour or so today and many to get the 12 long valves lapped in a fitted and the inlet cam fitted back hopefully get an hour tomorrow to do the last 6 exhaust ones,
