2020 A4/S4 - Number Plate Drill vs Stick

After 2 months my stuck on number plate has fallen off - thankfully on my drive. I did use multiple stickers.

I trust drilling/screwing on is optimal and this Audi face plate (photo below) is designed to be drilled.

- I'll start with a small drill bit and make a hole slightly smaller than the plate screws.

Any advice on how to avoid car damage. Any gotcha's with doing this?

I’ve been waiting for the same thing to happen, the “stickies” just hold the plate onto the raised bits on the honeycomb. If you go the drill and screw route, please report on how it goes.
 
I would try and use a tiny bit of mitre glue. It hold in around 10 seconds and is pretty strong stuff won’t need much.

I’ve been using Gorilla “heavy duty mounting tape” and it’s brilliant. It’s quite thick so moulds round uneven surfaces really well.

When taking the plates off my old car to transfer to the new one I ended up snapping the plate because it was held down so well.

Thanks guys. Both Gorilla tape and Mitre Glue are Amazon Prime items with next day delivery.

Spoke to the service manager today regarding any pitfalls with the drill and screw number plate method of attachment. It transpires that a number of S and RS models across the Audi range (with the honeycomb grill) have been supplied without the front number plate mounting attachment. He checked with the parts dept and they have them on back order. We also chatted about the software upgrade for "myAudi" and he has not been informed of any issue date.
 
Interesting. Is there a way to check whether you have the mounting attachment? Can you tell from my picture in the thread? Perhaps I need to ask my dealer to supply if this stops stickies from falling off as the current mount point is curved?
 
You’ll know if you have the mounting attachment as it’s a big chunk of plastic that clips onto the grille giving a flat plate to stick the plate onto. Similar to this!

Yas but you still need to screw the mounting plate into the grill. I cut my mounting plate down so that it's just a flat pad smaller than my number plate and then I just used double-sided mounting tape from there. Handy as my plate is shorter than the mounting plate and means I've no ugly screws.

If you just want to tape it to the grill the obvious answer to me is just to layer up some VHB mounting tape on a couple of blanked off peices of the honey comb so that it sides proud of the edges, that way your getting it stuck to a surface rather than an honeycomb edge.

Thanks Scoot1e. I assume this should be supplied to those who did not get one with the car for free by Audi?

On the MyAudi issue I’m seeing a consequence seems to be that Last Destinations and Favourite seem to get forgotten. Is that a know consequence of the issue or I’m I doing something else wrong?
 
I'm assuming that the mounting will be offered FOC, or put it this way, I am not paying for something that should be there!

I believe the whole navigation glitches are tied into the myAudi software problem.
