Hi all,

I have a 59 plate A3 sportback.

Over the past year all the door except the drivers door have stopped unlocking. This problem was intermittent to start with. Now all the other doors seem dead. The button inside does not unlock them either. The only way to open them is to use the inside handle.

Problem is, I need to put the child locks on. And if i do that, there will be no way to open the rear doors as the option to open it from the inside will also be gone.

I have give it a scan with VCDS and the results are below. And help would be great.

Open the front doors & check for broken wires in the door hinge rubbers.

I found on mine this was caused by a broken wire. Mine was a 10 plate so I don’t know how similar they are but there’s a data cable (purple and white) that allows the doors to talk to the convinience unit under the dash.

The way it’s cabled is weird so bare with me:

Drivers side - CU>Drivers door>rear door

Same with passenger side so worth checking for a broken cable in all 4 doors but I’d start with the front doors

Facelift cars have a bus wire connecting fronts to rears, older had individual bus wires to each door, however if the driver door has broken wires it can cause issues all round.

This is exactly what I faced - only the drivers door wire was broken but effecting all doors.

Great stuff, thank you all for your suggestions.

I will get all the above checked out this weekend and let you know how I get on.

Thanks again.
