Needs a ****** brake hose now

:rolleyes, where is the rope or tall building:

Seem a little dramatic about needing a brake hose.

Anyway, MOT for mine due this month. Have to get the S4 front brake setup on before then. A bit concerned front arms might be an issue for the test and I don't think I have it in me to DIY them in a Scottish January at this age.

Trust me, in the last two weeks.... what could go wrong has gone wrong. I've spend 3k fixing the car, so I have a feeling it'll not be ""straight forward" hence the dramatics LOL

I know the feeling, from my experience cars like that it never ends every month it finds something else to **** you off with.

Who's diagnosing these faults? 3k repairs on a 1.5k car seems a lot, even if you were attached.

Me, I do the work And change the parts

13 year old car and xxx amount of miles = tip of a very big iceberg and at the and of the day it will just keep sapping funds as everything is worn to a more or lesser degree.
You could have bought a £5k version of the same car and still had issues , age and miles = worn out parts, how much you spend and replace is down to the owner really and what their future expectations are for the car.

Just my input.

I'm in a similar (although less extreme) situation to Hogg in terms of expense. My thinking is that a 1.9 on c.90k miles has a lot of life left in it and is therefore worth a bit of TLC.

I echo Robs sentiment that any second hand car in the lower price bracket is a total gamble in terms of problems and parts.

When I got mine I took a JFDI approach to it, and to be honest it's been reasonable since I gave it new belts, brakes and suspension. Fresh oil every 5k miles and I'm expecting it to reach 200k and as a result consider it to be worth it ( for now ).

Also a question of weather it's money spent on essential mainatance and repairs or just personal improvements to ones bus.
£3k is a fair few pennies in such a short time if on repairs etc , but very small amount if spent in the form of personal improvement/mods, as the two are totally different things.
Since you paid cheap money for the car it may have been an indicator of things to come really , but not allways.
At the end of the day its all down to you really.

Actually a couple of weeks ago.

H&R coilovers.
H&R RS4 anti-roll bars.
19” wheels with Continental rubber.
(Better control of body roll, less diving on braking, less understeer).

To do soon: (all ready to go)
Front BBK, 8 pot RS4 Brembos with larger discs.
Larger RS4 rear discs and updated pads (callipers are the same as S4 apparently).
APR carbon fibre air intake.
Front bumper splitter.
Remote roof module.

To do in the spring:
Timing chain.
Exhaust.
Detail interior and exterior and ceramic coating.

This year:
Go to an Audi show!

I did make a thread last summer about going to tunerfest midlands if they have it on again this year, failing that were have to find somewhere else to meet up.

Sorry to hear that Hogg. Got to be pretty depressing to constantly be dumping money on the car. Will you sell the whole thing or break it?

It's a case of buyer be aware with any B7 purchase, still not fool proof.

Only reason i went 1.9tdi not 2.0tdi because my old mk4 golf gt tdi was bullet proof. I did 309k with no issues

MOT today. Straight through despite a battle to meet emissions with the 034 cat.

Putting together parts for the S4 brake conversion since my front discs need changed anyway. Went for drilled to keep the OEM DTM look:

The emissions test seems to be getting tighter every year now, my old bus went through ok last year with the 034 but not as easy as previous year still with the 034 which was the same as the year before.

My local test centre are very good on the subject and very helpful but recently there equipment has been updated with much more tighter limits.
I may just swap back to the oem cat for the test , then refit, a bit of fuffing around but cant see the point in thrashing the car to get the cat red hot to get it through.

Sign of the times really .

Yeah, I'm pro-environment so can't complain, just expected the 034 to sail through. It took about 40 minutes in-all to get it through, the tester made it his personal mission, haha. I think the 034 just needs to be properly hot compared to the OEM one. Might see if I can have the emissions test done as soon as I arrive next time.

Taxed it for a year just now, OUCH! Insurance due later in the month. Why did I scheduled all of this for January?!

Fitted the ECS induction kit today well its just gone midnight so technically yesterday but anyway here it is.

Definitely makes a better noise now and looks a lot cleaner under the bonnet.

Thats one of the few mods fitted I've just spent over £1500 on! Its all in the name of love....thats what i keep telling myself anyway.

That looks so good I definitely need one but not sure which one as I love the look of the one with the carbon cover?? Do you know if there is an other difference between the two?
Looks great tho

Thanks mate im definitely happy with it, i was looking at the carbon one and to be honest i couldn’t justify the extra £150 ish for a carbon cover and extra hear shield when this one is such a good set up, your get slightly better performance as its covered but this one seals against the bonnet so is definitely good enough imo.

Been off the radar for the last few months... having more babies and working constantly I haven’t had five minutes for the old wagon. That said it’s not missed a beat and still continues to make me smile each time I use it.
The 034 engine mounts and resistors arrived a few days ago so I’ll be looking to get those fitted along with the Sachs clutch, LUK DMF, Eibach ARB kit, new break lines and finally the Brembo 18z upgrade.
Also going to change the oil pick up pipe and do a sump clean.

Just been reading through the thread since I was last here and seeing quite a few of you talking about spending too much money on your cars either for maintenance or upgrades. Feeling like I fall into the category of ‘spent way way too much’ but I do love this old wagon.

Yep, I'd noticed you had been off the radar for a while Rob.
More small people then, that's going to put a damper on investing more pennies on the bus, best start hiding some cash away before it all get allocated elsewhere..:tonguewink:

Nice to here your having problem free ownership thus far, so many others are having less of an ideal ownership.

if you love your car, I certainly love my car , then nothing wrong with spending on it ….:icon thumright:

Already have a small pot of cash put to one side to complete the planned works.
I did (very briefly) consider selling up and buying an SUV but then I regained consciousness.
Although I am reaching the size limits of the B7 now!
