B8.5 Rusty Wings

Hi all

When I got back from my holidays over christmas, I noticed a lot of small bubbling around both front arches of my A4 B8.5 2012. 64,800Miles.
I immediately got in contact with the dealership I bought it off and arranged to book the car in for a look.

Tootled off down there today and the guy agreed that the wing hadn't been painted before, however because he couldn't poke his pen through the affected area, it doesn't qualify for the anti perforation warranty and the defect would fall under the normal 3 year paint warranty. He did say the problem was likely to be caused by the wheel arch liner rubbing on the inner lip of the arch to allow the water to get in and cause bubbles.

Slightly annoyed, but not expected at the guys verdict, my next step is to get in touch with audi UK and see what they say regarding the issue. The lad at Teesside audi wasnt even interested in beginning a warranty claim as he knew it would be rejected.

Has anyone any experience with dealing with Audi UK regarding wings on their B8. Also, if anyone else has had anything similar, it would be nice to have a few cases of where work has been honoured in the past.

For all hassle it will be it's probably just easier and less hassle to get a decent body shop to rub them down and spray them.

From seeing quite a few other posts about Audi's warranty anyone who successfully ends up getting it repaired still ends up paying a contribution which is normally more than it would have been just to get it sorted at a private garage.

True. Just having them sorted £FOC is far appealing than having to dip a few hundred quid into my pocket myself.

Ive not heard of Audi doing any paintwork warranty work completely free to be honest, not to say it doesn't happen though. It's normally something daft like 2 wings to be resprayed £3500 with a £600 contribution required from the customer from the examples I've seen on the forums etc

Father got his 2003 A4 done twice for nout. First time they sprayed them, but come back through so they ended up putting 2 new wings on for nout!

Audi & paint, rust claims are like ******* in the wind, they refuse almost all I've read about, big it's free to call them & raise the issue.

Also, if you can get it in writing from the dealer about the rubbing is the cause, then you have a case to raise as this would denote a possible reason for them to address it, however there's variables in why it's happened, so be prepared to counter their arguments multiple times.

Had blistering paint fixed on my 2015 TTS on the rear bumper wheel arch although obviously not rust as it was on the plastic, in fact they resprayed the whole bumper under warranty for nothing with out any hassle at all. Still think this is very dependant on the dealers point of view luckily I have a very good dealer

Had a very simialr instance on a MK5 GTi my wife owned around 7 years ago. VW replaced both wings under warranty and painted them FOC.
It was a know issue with the wheel arch liner rubbing, so VAG do have history with this type of problem.
I spoke directly with VW customer service at the time in Milton Keynes. They were actually very helpful ( I also pointed out that we'd owned in excess of 5 VAG models up until that point)

@Chris90 - Get in touch with @DickoB8 as he's been thro' the whole warranty claim with Audi for the rusty wings
He should be able to give you all the advice you need

Teesside Audi? You will defo be wasting your time with these bunch of idiots IMHO

Had a new roof skin fitted on my old B7 in 2015 thru the warranty. Wolverhampton Audi initially tried to charge me 20% of repair cost until i pointed out the Audi UK website clearly stated £FOC repair!!

3 months later finally got my car back. Complete with coffee stains on bootlid, badly refitted undertrays on rear bumper, 4 creaky doors and dirty hand prints on headliner.

Complete sh1t show tbh.

When I had my bmw had loads replaced free of charge under the rust warranty

2 wings, 1 door and various little bits done. Got to the point they knew me

Just don't take no for an answer. But as been said dealers don't care once they've sold the car.

I’ve got a bit of rust bubbling along the bottom of the wing where it meets up with the sill on my B8.5 that I’ll be looking to sort in the summer. It’s a hood excuse for a full front end refresh!
