Audi Connect features? Googlemap overlay?

Afternoon! 3 questions for you chaps!

Firstly, does Audi connect include the googlemaps overlay imaging? Reason why i ask is that over here in Switzerland we get nothing for free, Audi connect is 180chf for 1yr or 350chf for 2yrs. That’s around £150 and £290 in pounds. I don’t want to pay this, I use nearly nothing on Audi connect apart from sending destinations to the car but for 350chf I think I can do without. I cannot do without the googlemaps imaging though as I think it really suits the VC and central display well.

Secondly, I don’t suppose Audi connect includes any more map updates?

Thirdly, is there any news on the googlemap or here map integration and the upcoming cancelation of the googlemaps overlay feature? It was widely talked about on various Internet forums including here, but it’s gone a bit quiet now... don’t want to pay for it and then not get it half way through the year.

Can you not use carplay or android auto? From what I have learned the google maps overlay licence isn't being renewed either this or next year...

I think my licence says 2021. Will be a shame when it goes, especially for those with the VC :disappointed:. At least the google maps will still work on carplay/android auto.

could do yes but then loose the VC map display which I really like. Side question, has anyone fitted an adapter for wireless CarPlay yet?
I guess here maps will become standard when googlemaps runs out?
 
I just googled this. It spoiled my day for sure.

so as it stands, we loose google maps as of 31/12/2020. That’s in anything MY18 and older.

reason being a change in Google’s system rendering the MMI in the older cars incompatible. Not great news!

This isn't the licence in your car but the licence Audi pays to Google to use their maps as the hardware becomes incompatible as stated...

Audi already use here maps, it's the google overlay we are going to lose..

yes but the Here maps app has street view and satellite view just like googlemaps so perhaps they will integrate this after googlemaps has been cancelled.

I hope so. One of the reasons I went for an s3 over a golf r was the superior VC.

However those maps are probably for later hardware versions of the MMI systems. I can state there is no replacement for the google overlay that I know of...
 
Just got a reply from my dealer here in Switzerland:

Hi ****,

Yes, I can understand your frustration but I don’t really think it will happen. I checked with our special Audi internally Site ( it’s called Partnernet ) for any pieces of information about that but couldn't find anything.

If I find any information from the official source I let you know.


Make what you will out of that! I'm at the point where i need to decide or not to go with 1 or 2 yrs Audi Connect or not at all. Don't want to lose GM overlay so might do 1yr....
