Next model A3

Black would be the number one choice but for the reason you have just said (keeping it clean) i won't entertain it.

Also agree on white.. thing is the blue will be common as muck too and red is like marmite.. (i like marmite).

I think Blue and grey are the colours to have now, so they will get common I suppose.

I remember when I was still at school nobody wanted a white car, but then all of a sudden around 10 years ago, it became the colour to have. This was due to the different variations and effects in the colour though as the old white cars looked nasty.

I wouldn’t touch red either.

Other than they are both sporty 5 door hatchbacks in a similar colour shot from a similar angle I fail to see much of a similarity. If you saw those cars in the flesh they would not be alike at all.

Do you have eyes in the front of your face?

Had a wander around a few dealers today while I was waiting for mine to be serviced. Amongst others I had my first proper look at the Merc A class and BMW 1 series.

The A class was a definite no for me. I just don't like the overall shape and although the interior is impressive from the tech point of view, it felt too fussy for in-car use. Maybe a huge screen across the dash is something you would get used to but it just looks wrong to me.

The new 1 series was much more impressive. They had a M135 in the showroom in a metallic grey not too dissimilar to Daytona, maybe a bit lighter, and the big kidney grille didn't stand out against that colour like it does on the blue press cars. The whole car looked spot on IMO. It definitely looks way better in the metal, especially in that colour, than in the pics . The interior was very nice too, had the tech but still looked like a proper car dash. Build quality felt good the doors and boot shut with a nice solid thud. The boot seemed to be as big as in my Sportback.

The 1 series is now definitely on the list of possible next cars for me.

I’ve taken my be for a drive, it’s one beast of a car.

I noticed in this week's Auto Express that the expected date for the new A3 has changed from late 2019 to 2020. Perhaps the Geneva Motor Show in March?

I wish Audi would make the A3 Saloon a "Liftback" (like the Skoda Octavia/BMW Gran Coupe). I have always thought the saloon is the best looking A3, but I do need the practicality of a hatchback. A Liftback gives the best of both worlds IMO. I know there was talk of one for the next gen A3, but I don't think it has been confirmed.

Like the Mercedes CLA shooting brake?

Would be a different dimension to the A3 I’ll give you that.

No. That's just an estate really. I mean an A3 with the same side profile as the saloon but with the rear window and boot joined and lifting together as on a hatchback. Like the current Skoda Octavia saloon.

oh I’m with you now, that wouldn’t be a saloon then, it would be a hatchback, but yeah that could work with the lines of the A3 saloon as it is.

That's very Vanilla looking. But I expect that's just the Boggo car. Hopefully the S3 will look more aggressive?

But the article says Saloon not to be launched till 2021. And the S3 not till 2021 either.

From a distance though, you'd struggle to tell that the `All new A3 Saloon` from the `been out for a while` A4. Why make it look so similar?

Overall, I'm not impressed or enticed to wait.

More new skoda Octavia looking than anything. The rear door windows are all wrong too, very un A3 saloon like:

That looks like a sport model to me rather than S-line, hence the vanilla look. Like you say it’s not something I’m excited about waiting around for either.

Explain to me again @BrummieLad why you cant wait for the new A3...
He can have mine if he can't wait.....99.999999999% the same as the new model coming out. Just a few swirl marks and the odd scrape on the alloys....
I would consider knocking off a couple of hundred on dealer price to entice you.....:whistle2:

Because I want to change me car, and would therefore want the latest S3 as it’s the perfect balance for me for performance, size and economy isn’t too bad.

Is there an issue with that?

Issue nope....your business mate theres hee haw else out there that comes out even close IMO

You’re right there isn’t, which why I’m kind of struggling a bit. Considered the M135i but to be honest the way things are looking at the moment, I’ll most likely end up in the new 3 series, at least it’s got all the tech in there.

It looks rubbish, but then it still looks disguised to me.

I hope that chrome trim isn't seriously going all the way round the car and below the lights. Awful look

If this is what the new model is going to look like, then the length of the body in front of the front wheels looks far too long, plus I think the back looks a mess with those fake vents.

That chrome strip really is horrendous !

Other than that, not a great deal externally different from the current model & makes you wonder what on earth the designers have spent so long ‘designing’.

The wait on this car seems to be taking forever & im not convinced the final unveil will match the anticipation.

I wonder if their game plan was to drag it out so long and increase the anticipation. They maybe think that way joe public will buy it on mass without really thinking about it. TBH it looks more of a facelift rather than a "new" design.

Looks like it could be totally underwhelming just like the new Golf.

Pretty sure that's just a piece of sticker for disguise... The FL A4 and new A1, Q2 didn't get the tailgate chrome trim treatment, pretty sure the new A3 won't either, I guess it's reserved for the higher tier models? But they're taking the evolution approach which somehow is going more towards the A1 side more than the A4 side, it looks smaller than the current model even though the dimensions are about the same.

The current FL IMO is elegant and muscular, the new rounder shape makes it more feminine and I HATE the clamshell hood design which lots of newer cars from all manufacturers are coming out with... And sad to see they're using honeycomb for like every model now, wasn't it supposed to be a RS thingy?

Any details when the new A3 will be announced, go on sale? My current A3 is coming up to 3 years old and I’m starting to think about a replacement.

According to a item on the Audi TV channel , the official launch of the new A3 will be be on March 3rd at the Geneva Motor Show.

And from official launch to actual cars on the road, we're looking at at least 6 months. So maybe everyone car order for September delivery?
