So I came out to my car the other morning to find the rear brake lights on and the fans running, jumped in the car and tried starting it up, absolutely dead but obviously the battery was dead, got the battery charged enough but still no luck getting it started, RAC came out fixed it roadside by changing a relay, 5 minutes later dead again. Another RAC unit came out suggested it could be the fuel pump relay as the car juddered and cut out and he said there was no fuel pressure, but he didnt have the means to try fix it so he took it to a garage.

That garage said the whole bulkhead is full of water and are saying they arent touching the car as they dont want to open a can of worms, to me this screams in-experience but its now in a German specialist unit, but im wondering if any of you guys have had this problem and to what extent was the damage? I dont want to get stung by the garage! I realise its a electrical problem but im praying its just blocked bulkhead grommets and a simple relay/fuse repair!

I had a similar issue shortly after buying the car where the lid for the case that houses the ECU and control relays was damaged. This allowed some water in which damaged the relays causing all sorts of issues. Solved by replacing the lid over the ECU plus new relays from Audi. All is fine now and the garage I bought it from picked up the tab.
Hopefully yours is a simple fix but worth checking that casing for cracks or a poor seal around the lid. Good luck

Yeah the box is cracked at the back and a screw missing! But im more worried about the cost of the electrical fix, just spoke to garage they said the car is quite water damaged and made out its a major fix which makes me worry, but after reading many forums on this issue and people saying they changed the relays, dried it out, unblocked bulkhead drains, im now worried about the garage having my pants down!

fingers crossed it isn't too bad. I think my bill came in at about £150 for diagnostics, new lid and screws, 1x engine control relay and 1x starter motor relay. I'm sure it would have been a bit cheaper to have done it myself but the car was under warranty at the time

Has the same issue last year, £12 for new fuel pump relay from TPS and £15 for ECU cover

Haven't had any issues since.

Hope its as easy as you lads have had it, ill let you know how it goes, wish id of attempted the easy fixes myself before taking it to the garage!

It's easier if you remove the wiper arms and scuttle panel but it is possible to do in situ just a bit fiddly getting to the back 2 screws.

Garage got it done, changed fuel pump relay, unclogged the bungs and it runs like a dream! Just tried to self regen the DPF so ill see how it runs tomorrow, Cost 135 quid from the garage which im more than pleased about as i got quoted 250 ish before! Great lads who did it, if your in the wakefield leeds area id deffo recommened German Auto Care!!

Thinking I’ve got the same or similar problem. I’ve got an A6 2.7quattro avant 2007
Car wouldn’t start, after some online research seemed it could be the steering column module which if either done though Audi direct who would replace the whole steering column at £1000 parts plus almost as much again in labour or done by getting the module off and literally cutting into it to repair some micro switches. (See online vids)
But having looked in the bulkhead I noticed it had at least an inch of water sloshing about. I’ve managed to unblock and drain and now waiting for a mobile auto engineer to call back.
What I’d like to know is what other peoples symptoms were? As mine all point to it being the steering column gizmo, (going on others experiences) no ignition-completely dead but getting power to the central screen, high beam, hazards, central locking.
I’m hoping I’ve got same issue as what’s been writing in this thread!
Any feedback appreciated!

Got same problem I’m sure water has got into my relay box in bulkhead and car is completely dead , I checked the battery tray and surrounding area and no puddles of water and dry but my road is a
Camber road so it’s parked so all the run off will head towards the relay box on driver side , went out this morning and the cars completely dead not a ring no turn over it dash lights etc

I’m starting to worry that water could now get in behind and in to the foots where the ccm’S lay

is this a concern even if it appears my battery tray drain seems fine? Will my relay box fill up and spill over in to my cab driver footwell?
Rac are on the way but this worries me as it’s dead and parked up on that camber road don’t want it filling up over Xmas

any help guys please

Exactly same job just cost me £430 in garage !! An auto tec had to check all wiring and board was good after the relay box had filled with water , that was 200 in labour alone . Some cheap relays and making sure the box is now drainable with holes in its bottom , starts and works fine

just a ****** expensive bill for what it is
