So really just a bit of what has been peoples experience. So I am not talking here about big brake kits or replacements from other models on the standard A4 B7 but fitting "performance" parts which are like for like. Be interested to know peoples views on if this is standard or not.
So short story had to replace front brakes last year for MOT so decided to spend a little more. Garage then refused to fit parts they hadn't bought (and due to family commitments/MOT couldn't wait) so stumped for some temporary standard replacements. Recently got the uprated parts fitted to the car. So pretty standard EBC USR Rotas and Red Stuff pads. Now ignoring if that is to your taste - had them put on the car.
So friendly local mechanic I got to fit them bled them 3 times he was so worried, and even when I picked them up he was unsure. I listened, took it out and I know you cannot push new discs/pads, but just lightly used them. TBH it was a little scary they really didn't feel great. At low speed in particular - the last 10mph felt like an age. At speed they felt a bit better. But it was really bad at braking, really bad.
Now you could feel a very regular concentric groove pattern on them at first when you ran your finger over the disc, hard to describe the exact feeling. Looked at the EBC site and they talk about skimming, etc but that really is pricey - but said wait first 1000 miles (as new pads and discs) and should be fine. So plenty of careful driving and now at a little under 1000 miles now and the brakes feel really good again if you push them hard. When you run your finger over them they are properly smooth as I would expect.
Is that normal for "performance" brakes? Will be honest driving the first 300 miles with the new pads and discs was more than a little scary. Be interested to know any experiences with any, not just EBC, standard brake replacements.
