Hi, Just got a 2009 s4 and had the Pulley and Belts changed and a mild map to 450hp. within a week, i've seen the water temperature rise above half way last night and only got it down by ramping the heating on max.

The fans run constantly, and the coolant level is brim full in the bottle when it was in the normal zone before.

I'm guessing its the Water pump. Can anyone confirm if this runs off the same belt? Any insight, similar experiences greatly appreciated!

Check the pipes to see if it's circulating, if not then either an air pocket or pump issue.

Or coincidental timing and the thermostat has gone, fans on etc is what happened on mine.

Water pump runs off the auxiliary belt which is behind the supercharger belt on the crank pulley. Could just be an airlock I'm the system if it wasn't bled properly

Sounds like the Thermostat, very common, classic symptoms.
You need to get it replaced as soon as possible if so.

I thought all stats fail open to avoid sudden overheating? If the fan is on the sensor in the rad is showing the stat is allowing some circulation.Perhaps the pump is failing

B5 (S4) Thermostats fail open.
B8 (S4) Thermostats fail closed unfortunately.

Sorted thanks for the input.

Swapped both the Water pump (metal) and the Thermostat which has resolved the problem. No point not swapping both while the front of the car was off!

When last did your belts get changed, I'm dragging my heals a bit on this job, both belts are in the boot, but it is a bit cold out there, car is a 2011 and mileage is only 25K miles only used on high days and holidays, as its easier to park and wash wife's car!

The belts were changed prior to the problems as a new smaller Forge S/C Pulley kit. It looks like it was the Thermostat as the water pump was the metal type and in good order. However, the S/C has to come off to get access to both parts so for most of the invoice being labour it made sense to swap both at the same time.

Whole job cost £350 from a local trusted garage.
