Hi Guys

early 2018 Allroad with Nav plus, in MMI the option of "Audi smartphone interface" is greyed out and i have connected my Samsung S9+ via USB , intalled Android Auto but nothing appears to happen. any ideas?

John

Smartphone interface is an optional on a lot of cars, not standard.

Sounds like yours is installed, but not activated.

@DJAlix is the man in the know :racer:

Audi Smartphone interface can be activated by way of a licence and activation document. An authorised services provider, such as myself, can activate this for you. Should cost between £265 to £300.

and what are the benefits ? is it really worth that ?

I use mine all the time since I had it retrofitted.

Audi are not renewing their Google Maps licence, using the smart phone interface allows you to choose Waze or Google Maps as your navigation option.

I default to Waze as it has other useful information :busted cop::racer:

You can read aloud and dictate back replies to WhatsApp and Facebook messages, not just text messages like the OEM MMI.
You can play Spotify.
You can say “navigate to xxx” and it automatically drops into Waze giving you the top location choices. You can also say “Navigate to Home” and it starts automatically with no other instructions needed.

Those are the main ones for me (Android user). :racer:

When I had Carplay enabled on my Allroad the Smartphone interface became active, Its ok but wouldn't rave about it.
It's great for Spotify etc but the main draw back for me is you loose the ability to have 2 phones connected to bluetooth. If I don't use the interface(phone not plugged in) both my phones work with BT but as soon as you plug in one phone the BT is lost to the other. I've ended up putting Spotify on my work phone and just use that when I'm out and about at work. For me I wouldn't pay anymore than I did(£120), I was bit underwhelmed by Carplay.
Depending on the age of car and spec of your MMI you can do what I did and just have it remotely enabled. I used the guy that's been doing loads of them in states.
You'll get a lot more info here,
