After having my S5 stolen 5 weeks ago I’m looking at getting a tracker and immobiliser fitted to the new one I’m picking up tomorrow. Audi have recommended the Vodafone Protect & Connect 5. I just wondered how big the cards are and how you carry them around. Are they like credit card size that you can put in your wallet or are they like a key fob with a hole that you can attach to a set of keys. Otherwise I’m just conscious that it’s another thing to forget when leaving the house.

Get a Autowatch Ghost fitted and job done or one these

Got a ghost on the wife’s T5 California as she doesn’t like carrying extras about

Unless things have changed in the last couple of years, the cards are about half the size of a credit card and are around 4mm thick.

Thanks for that. So too thick to put in wallet like a credit card perhaps? Do they attach to a key ring? Any idea how people carry them around?

Have thought about getting AWG immobiliser although not sure Audi will fit one. How is PIN number entered?

They’ll fit in your wallet but will be bulky. They don’t have a hole to go on your key fob (would defeat the purpose - you’re supposed to keep them separate from your keys).

I used to leave mine in the house most of the time and then get called from Vodafone whilst driving.

I have a coins press stud pouch on the inside of my wallet. I don't carry any loose change so I keep the fob in there. Not bulky and I don't notice it's there.

Yeah that’s kind of what I was bothered about. They don’t appear to be designed in any way that helps you to keep them with you when you leave the house. Like in your wallet or attached to your house keys.

Unfortunately I don’t have anything like that. Wife is fine. She can just put it in her purse - if I let her have one :) My wallet is fairly slim. I’d assumed when I spoke to Audi that the cards were a lot slimmer.

What's wrong with your pockets?

:-D

Haha yeah nothing wrong with my pockets the problem is getting it into my pockets. Like you said, I’m trying to avoid getting the call from Vodafone.

Furthermore, if you leave the house without taking the car you need some sort of reminder to take the immobiliser with you rather than leaving it at home for a burglar to pick up.

I guess you just get in the habit of it. It just seems weird that there’s not an easier way to keep it with you.

Funnily enough I spoke with the insurance company and there doesn’t seem to be any benefit to the premium if you get a tracker fitted. Even the guy at Audi questioned whether I’d actually want it back if it was stolen - which I hadn’t really considered until now.

You can buy a leather holder that goes on a key ring , got one for mine as they are to bulky for wallet and tend to try to escape from your pocket , I will try and find a link, from what I can remember it wasn't cheep :wtf:

Yeah that would be perfect. Exactly what I’m looking for. I had searched on amazon and eBay and couldn’t find anything at all so if you have a link it would be greatly appreciated:)

I had a Maserati that came with the system from the factory a few years ago. I renewed it after 12 months and then didn’t bother the next time.

I wouldn’t want the car back either. The only thing it benefits are the insurance companies. I’d take my payout and buy something else.

Prevention and deterrents are better than recovery at the end of the day.

Tracker is a better system and uses VHF so can be located underground and in metal containers.

The Vodafone system is very good and reliable they are quite on it with getting cars back usually very quickly.

Just to add as well the point with the card is to keep it with you as well, there's no point it being with the car key as it does kind of defeat the object of it too. You could always treat yourself to an appropriate wallet with space in it for it :)

On other methods of protection it depends on where and how your previous one was stolen. maybe get a set of cameras installed at home or a big old wheel lock?

That's why I keep the tracker on my house keys which are separate from my car keys, but with me when ever I use the car just like my wallet but without having to stuff the large card in it....
