Hi,

What are peoples thoughts on the black edition? Worth the 2k extra for no chrome, flat bottom wheel, privacy glass and 20" rims???

I dont think it's particularly good value, but the reason for buying is cosmetic and I'm sure it looks great.

It does look great, no black styling pack for the S line yet. I have an order in for an sline and I’m contemplating switching.

Not worth the 2k for me. I’d like the black look but not for that price. What’s the ride like on these cars with 20 inch wheels? I guess Sline and black will have the same suspension unless you opt to upgrade so you might need to factor that in if the ride ends up a bit harsh. I’ll stick with my Sline and wait for the cosmetic bits to become available.

I'd rather get an S-Line and buy:
20" v-spoke wheels 950
Privacy glass 475
And you'd still be 575 better off.....

I'm currently in the process of creating an Avant S line Black Edition. Wheels and spacers are on, windows have been tinted, hopefully the car will be dechromed this weekend. Watch this space...

Nice, cant wait to see your updates.

I called the dealer today about the BE but my order has been confirmed for build next Monday. That’s decided that for me. Where and how are you getting the chrome removed ???

I’m interested to see the results in the De-Chrome.
Looking at doing this when mine is delivered.

You could go one better and do it with a wrapping/tinting specialist which is what i'm doing.

  • £150 for privacy glass - The guy that did this literally works on all the local Audi dealership cars.
  • £300 for black styling i.e replacing the chrome and wrapping the mirror + bumper etc.
Leaves you £1550 for any wheels of you choosing (OEM or aftermarket).

Who did you use for the black styling? I’m looking at this but I will use the roof bars and I’m not sure what will work best.

I am sorry but £150 for tinting the glass will never in a million years be as good as the factory one...

How so? They are genuine 3M products and it comes with a 5 year guarantee. Not to mention the guy that installed it tints the local Audi dealerships. £150 is what I would expect to pay for the rear to be done.

Because OEM tinting isn't a layer of plastic stuck on a piece of glass and £150 seems far too cheap for a professional tinting job..

If you're willing to pay £475 + VAT for the same finish and then criticise someone else for getting it done elsewhere and cheaper, more fool you.

Aftermarket tins tend to look a bit **** as the aerial & rear defroster wire are made very visible (like below) not a look I would pay for, at least with OEM tint you don't get that look.

I understand that you can see the defroster element but paying almost £500 to hide the orange outline just seems stupid to me and that's not even mentioning that it provides little to no protection from UV. It just looks good and has no function. I'd rather pay less for film which in my own opinion doesn't visually look bad and has the added bonus of UVA protection.

Does the tint film have the same effect as OEM when you're inside the car, i.e. the glass looks relatively clear looking from the inside out?

Agree on this. Had my previous A6 done (whilst still at dealer) as it wasn’t BE. Overall looked pretty good, but back window does look sh*t in my opinion.

I got mine tinted by the dealer and am happy with them - as far as tints go. They are not a patch on factory privacy glass though however I prefer the dark look so got them done rather than have clear glass. It was £199 and better than most jobs I have seen. Audi have hiked the cost of privacy glass to nearly £500 so next time around I would be tempted to take the same route despite the back window looking so-so.

I sort of agree, but to be honest if I am speccing a car, I would always pay for the factory option. Wife’s JCW has had rear sides and back window done and looks pretty good, probably better than my A6 did, so yes, any form of tint is better than nothing, but factory best

I've ordered a black edition as I got it for a better price than I was expecting after speccing up an S-Line.

The S-Line was specced with privacy glass and flat bottom steering wheel (ever since having an S3 with one, I have one when I can!). I was going to put up with the 19's but the 20's do look really good and I've order a glacier white so think the black styling will contrast nicely and look sweet....hopefully!

OP,
Did you get your A6 de-chromed in the end? Reason for asking is that i'm looking for some A6 Avant Black Edition photos (I've also ordered one!) and initially I thought your car was a BE but then the wheels only look 19" (BE comes with 20" wheels as standard), Unless you've downgraded the wheels on a BE?
Cheers
