Hey guys,

Last week I noticed my A/C wasn't turning on when I put on the front windscreen as it normally does. I go to try it on with the switch but when I push it up, the other two options are greyed out and it stays on A/C OFF. When I start the car on it shows A/C eco for like 5 seconds then goes to OFF

Anyone had this problem before? Potential big problem?

Thanks

Tried all the drive modes. Still the same.

Climate ever been serviced? Not that I'm aware of

What temperatures do you have locally. I believe the AC will not operate if really cold.

Oh didn’t know that was a thing. I think the warmest it’s been with it not working is last morning. About 8c

Is it making any hissing or gurgling noises ? mine hissed quietly but steadily when it needed new gas.
I didn’t have any issues with the controls though - it was still able to be switched on. Sounds like you’ve just toggled something off - maybe in MMI ?

Unless there is a setting causing this then you might need to have it serviced. It isn't madatory every two years, but recommended. I am sure now all those who don't have their's serviced will start saying mine lasted ten zillion years without being looked will be making comments ;-)

I had the same issue with the greyed out options. Do the options show as white before you start the engine?. It was due to a pressure sensor in the AC circuit showing no gas. In my case the condensor/radiator had a leak but it's possible the pressure sensor is at fault.

Yup, could easily be a component failure, either way the car needs to be looked at. Has the car a warranty Kitman?

Correct in saying the air con shuts off below a certain temp. This wouldn't be noticeable to you though as it will still show as selected on the display.
The only reason it will not select on is due to a fault somewhere, it's staying off to protect itself from further damage

Correct yes the air con compressor will shut down, quoted from the manual "The air cooling is switched off automatically at low outside temperatures (below zero)". This will be to protect components from damage. However, what ever the ambient temperature, there is no indication this is taking place to the driver...

Thanks for the replies guys.

Ye the options show before start.

Just Approved Used warranty. Will have to pay inspection and repair if its not warrenty work.

I had the same problem. Turned out the condenser had a leak, no gas and had to be replaced. Thankfully all done under warranty, but they made a point of inspecting it to make sure it wasn't anything I'd done to damage it.
