I've just got my Audi A6 and am thinking about getting some extras added. But, I'd like to ask you all if the wiring looms are the same, even if the options added at the factory are different. I mean If you wanted to add say the radar modules on the front for the adaptive cruise, can this be done and then coded in?

This is my first Audi. Moving from a Nissan Skyline GTR R33 VSpec RB30/26 is quite a jump, but it would have been criminal to put loads of commuter miles on it.

Loving the car so far.

Audi tends to make looms vehicle specific and based on the options configured at the time of the build

It's a shame as I was hoping to do the same thing with my 14 plate (pre face-lift) when I got it back in May. But having the more "basic" dash and that alone needing changing before even looking at the rest I sacked it off.

I am no expert but from the odd bit I have read it looks like audi use looms which are built for the spec of each car,, probably to stop these sorts of things being added later with the chances of safety related issues and them looking bad in the media (I am thinking calibration on the radars and distances being out of limits).

Thanks for that John :)
Regarding the looms, I thought it would be in Audi's interest to make the looms the same. Owners would then be able to come back to an Audi main delaer and add on options. This would be a good money earner for them and make it easier for customers. I must be dreaming ;)

You are. Audi hate retrofits and up until recently there has been very few retrofit offers from Audi. They don't even like updating the MMI system, their ethos is if it ain't broke then don't fix it. Also retrofit costs from Audi would be sizable, as they only fit new parts and charge over £100 an hour labour cost for cars under 3 years old and a little under that for car older than 3 years.

Audi also have lots of different options so on a basic model it would leave a lot of unused plugs which could lead to lots of irritating rattles.
