Hello all, after a bit of collective wisdom. I have a 2018 plate rs3 saloon, owned from new. Only 6700 miles (small commute) and stock aside from cete avc and awg ghost.
Earlier this week I went to start the car and all the hard wired warning lights (Inc diesel glow plug light) strobed on start up along with the adaprive cruise vc symbol and esc vc light. Turned car and ignition on and off a few times and problem persisted. Car ran fine and all buttons in the cockpit were fully functional. I drove to work (5miles) and car behaved normally.
Pulling into work car park and got a warning stating ignition turning off and vehicle functionality may be limited. Then the vc shutdown and turned off after playing the ignition off animation. But the car was still running! Engine and all functionality were fine! I got a shaky phone video of the initial start up with warning lights strobing and a short clip of the car driving with vc off as I parked (both off public roads). Shut down car and restarted and vc started but warning lights continued to strobe. Shut down and called audi assist.
Got a generic recovery truck about 2h later. Car started with no warning lights and no errors stored on obd scan.
Adui dealer have now had the car for 2 days and found no issues after what they are telling me is a full electric year down and reassembly. They are now blaming the cete avc.
Has anyone had these issues or similar with avc or ghost? I assume I'll have to remove the avc and ghost and wait for the problem to reoccur.
It happened once before about 3 weeks ago as I pulled the car off drive and into garage in the evening, got the warning lights flashing, but car was fine in the morning so I thought nothing of it. It was just after the cars first service at audi.
Any opinions / experiences / advice welcome. Thanks in advance.

That is very weird! Firstly, did you get a fuse fitted to disable your AWG in a situation such as this? Also stops you telling dealers the pin etc.

A few times I’ve turned the ignition on and had a few flickering warnings on the virtual cockpit but they sort themselves out in seconds.

If I was you, the car would have gone back to who fitted the AWG and not Audi first of all as Audi could now potentially void the warranty on your loom as a result of an electrical fault and now knowing of a hard wired adaptation... fingers crossed they help you out though.

I hear AWG are very good and take issues seriously, go back to your installer and have them contact AWG... it might very well of happened to somebody else and they can easily update firmware. But yeah, I’d have the AWG disabled and go from there because as far as I’m aware it acts as cutting off the Canbus system between the dash and the ECU, it is quite possibly the source of your problems.

It could be ground wire not attached firmly.
This could be AVC, AWG ground wire or even car ground not attached firmly.

Thanks guys.
I had considered a fickle ground as a potential cause. I've always been upfront with my dealer about additional things fitted to the car, I completely forgot about declaring the avc to them this visit as its been on the car ages and just works seamlessley. I always mention the ghost and dashcam and set the ghost to valet mode. Its also useful telling them it will arm if they go past 30mph for 5 mins in valet mode as it keeps the dealer test drive short and slow!

I think most people buying some form of performance car will look at teackers/immobilers of some form (sometimes insurance mandated) so can't think audi will be unreasonable about the fitting of plug and play devices that can be removed as they really haven't significantly changed the way the car operates. I'll strip out the avc (it's definatley grounded as I installed it myself!) and see if the problem re occurs. If it does I'll have to get the ghost removed to see if it settles. At least audi had a proper check over first before asking me to remove the devices. I figured I can't ask for or expect more. I was just interested to see if anyone else has experienced similar either with avc/ghost fitted or without.

I had this exact issue a few months back. it did it a few times and sometimes the VC would freeze, the lights would all flicker or be solid, it really did misbehave!

The solution is that it is the AWG, we become accustomed to putting our pin in so fast that the system gets confused. Since i slowed the process down the issue has stopped and I have had zero problems, prior to this I had it 4 times in 3 days!

All you need to do is flick the ignition on and WAIT a couple of seconds until all of the warning lights disappear as normal. THEN put in your AWG code and after the confirmation flashes, wait a couple of seconds then start the car, issue gone. or it was for me anyway.

Essentially instead of the ignition, code start process taking 1 second it should take about 5 seconds.

Good luck.
