Hi all,

Just had advisory pop up for S3 for changing pads.

I can go for OEM or any others anyone can recommend? If so, best place to buy?

Thank

I would go for Pagid, Brembo, TRW, Textar.

They are top brands for brakes, reasonably priced and better than OEM ones in terms of brake dust.

Just out of interest how many miles have you done on them?

My go to for oe quality is always trw. Cheaper and normally comes with sensors, fittings, bolts etc.

TRW is what Audi use on fronts. Where is best place to buy at a good price?

Thanks

autodoc.com. Use the app. You get better discounts on the app. delivery is a bit slow, around a week as it comes from Germany.

Stay away from Brembo pads.
I had ordered a set and they rattled like crazy and it was loud when going over bumps etc.
There was no shim or jacket built in.
Took the hit and ordered a set of TRW pads and have not looked back.
I’ll always recommend OE where possible, the photo shows what the Brembo pads were missing.....

Had 53000 on the clock when the alert popped up. It was cheaper to get the rotors and pads

Zimmerman rotors.

I’m running Brembo on the back of mines and not had any issue. They are far quieter than the OE ones I had, due to the brake dust which got annoying. They still had quite a bit of meat on them when I changed them.

Might cross reference the spec of the pads and ask Audi over the phone. Thanks mate.

get the pr number from your hand book and cross reference that to the trw part. Trw website has a catalogue with parts to pr numbers

Hmmm, my kit was for the fronts, I still have yet to replace the rears.

Future legislation will see the end of copper and dusty brake pads .

Pagid are bad for dust .

Lots of choices these days , ATE Ceramic , etc .

I've 3 cars with full sets of ceramic EBC Redstuff.

Ferodo DS Performance and Eco-Fiction are low dust .

Our mechanic always had problems with VAG cars with electric handbrakes if using anything but OE pads , front not a problem but rear a real pain , from memory this was 4 A3s , 2 A4s , A5 , 2 golfs , and 6 Passats

Not trying to sound cheeky but maybe the problem is with the mechanic and not the pads.
I’ve used cheap euro crap pads and all the brands and Audi oe and not had any problems. Some pads don’t have new shims or fittings so you need buy new ones or refit old. I always get new ones or just buy brands like trw and the come with everything.

Perhaps , but the pads would wear out in less than a thousand miles , albeit this was around 4 years ago he stopped using aftermarket so maybe tolerances are better now.

What is the norm here for pads changes vs mileage? im on 49K now with original pads all round.

Wow!! You must be very gentle on the car.
3 other Audi’s I’ve had always wore the rear pads first at between 20-30k. Some of them needed discs as well as they were either corroded or had a massive lip on the edge. Fronts seem to last better.
Was told the rears had softer pads than the fronts that’s why they wear first. Whether that’s true or not I don’t know

I’ve used aftermarket for around 12 years and probably only had issues twice in that time. Not sure what brand your mechanic had been using or how’s hes been fitting them, as it’s very hard to kill brand new pads in less than 1000 miles.

My original front ones were pretty much done at 40k so had to replace them. The rears were like new at 40k, I only changed them as I got fed up of the grinding noise due to the brake dust.

I’ve just ticked over 20k miles on my 67 S3 and have plenty of pad left looking at them visually. I guess it depends on driving style. I do plenty of motorway miles so that must help. I reckon lots of town driving with start/stop traffic with an auto can wear through pads much faster. On the other hand, had to change the rear pads on my Mrs Cooper S at about 15k (also auto)
