MG1/MD1 Series ECUs cracked (B9)

I haven't, don't really fancy paying for it. It won't enable more torque unfortunately.

Fair enough, figured you had paid for map, but didn’t realise TCU map from DTUK didn’t increase available torque, but probably right, maybe only shift points

Yeah, I'd rather wait for an actual TCU tune.

Only if running meth.

what are people’s dragys? I’m not running meth and have a 3.47s 0-60mph and a 1/4 of 11.69s
Map5 with a BMC filter and 99ron ran 441bhp at a rolling road day.

People with meth + turbo are running 3s and 2.9s. I'll see if I can dig up up some of the photos.

I know the guys running meth and hybrid turbos from Audizine forum. Has anyone in the UK with a proper remap managed to do some dragy testing? Be interested in what people get.

I should be able to hit some times up on Sunday.. weather permitting

Yes a member running SA map Stage 2 hit 3.7s. I've ran 4s with my Stage 2, I used to get 3.8s with DTUK Stage 2.

Vinny (3.7s) was only running 3.9s at first. I believe it takes a week or so for the ECU to adapt to the new timing table, so I'm going to see if my 0-60 improves over the following week or two.

Interested to see what you get @Llynchmobb! I think 3.8s for definite. I'll try a run Sunday too.

I look forward to seeing some results. Fingers crossed the weather is good. Nice temperature drop so should help with people running the stock FMIC.

Any of the remap crew with real world numbers yet? I'm worried that this gear box limitation means that the performance will be stunted still!

A good tranny tune will be the next best thing to make upgraded turbo cars faster. Raising the rev limiter to 7k would translate to another 50hp and 7.5k would be 100hp more than what we have, in the power band beneficial for 1/4 mile racing. Overall, the gtx3582 turbo has anther 200hp in it, good for 9's.
I really like the setup as is with the jb4 and methanol injection. I am running very high boost (TMAP sensor limit) and I have yet to see any timing correction, I would not do that on pump fuel alone given that volume would be available so it's a two birds one stone benefit. The built-in oem timing mapping works very well with that turbo.

I am impartial when it comes with tuning method, it' all about personal needs, I will go with custom tuning once I move to my next turbo/built block setup.

ive heard the 1.5 COD (150ps) can now be tunned. with ECU MG1 off the car on a bench
both Tunners told me 150ps to 180ps
and torque from 250nm to 300nm
1) is it worth?
2)will it be trackable from AUDI SERVICE ?

The A4 doesn't use the 1.5 engine but personally I would use a tuning box. If the ecu has to be physically removed then the anti tamper bolts would be damaged. Any changes to the map will show up as well...

GTX3582 hybrid on the way!

I believe when bench tuning you remove the ecu and connect to it. Not actually opening the ecu so the anti tamper bolts aren't touched

Can I just check then what is meant by removing it? If it is physically removed from the car and not being opened is there not tamper proof bolts fixing it in place? However even if it is taking the ecu firmware from the unit the checksum of the new flash will be different and easily spotted by Audi...

ECU doesn't necessarily have to be removed - pin outs can be used for flashing in some instances.

Not sure about anti tamper bolts, but they might only secure the case to the ECU and not the ECU to the car itself.

Its called autotuner-tool.comthe company I think thatcracked the new bosch ecu. It's removed then plugged in. The old way years ago was to physically open the ecu to replace the chip

Based on the comments I saw by APR who are developing a tune for the B9 S4, they can unlock it using the tuning dongle without physically removing the ECU from the car - just by disconnecting connectors. I have seen photos of the B9 S4 engine bay and the ECU is in the most accessible place I have ever seen one so I guess that it why. Is the ECU in different places on other B9 models?

Thanks Dippy, no I think they're all more or less in the same place, right hand side as you look at the engine bay...

I did, he's going full frame and was selling it for a bargain

got yourself a wicked bargain i was gutted I didn’t have the funds available but look forward to seeing your car develop. You plan on going to Santa pod once you have it all running sweet?

Definitely! I think I'm opting for a JB4 over a remap for it. More tunability and I can change the car on the fly. WMI is also a possibility in the future.

I'll be down Santa Pod as soon as I've got the car dialed in :)

I think bench tuning is a poor interpretation of what really happens much like replacing chips or chip tuning - which really isn't the case.
I suspect bench tuning may refer to the live tuning of the car with the ECU electronically open i.e. connected real-time and in the loop with the car on a dyno.
Actually physically removing an ECU appears to make no sense.

Think you're misunderstanding. Bench tuning is more of an umbrella term rather than a specific process.

In certain scenarios, an ECU can be tuned by connecting to the pin outs - pretty much just plugging the tuning tool into the ECU. In cars like ours where the ECU is in an accessible location, it remains in the car.

Other times the tuning tool is directly connected to the ECU via means of a custom PCB which proxies the connection to the internal PCB. In either instance, the ECU isn’t powered by the vehicle. The tuning tool might simulate a connection, or it might be “simply” overwriting the data stored on the memory chip. As far as I’m aware, it’s called bench tuning as you take the ECU out and perform it on a bench.

Anyone managed to get any dragy runs in? I’m hoping the weather stays nice and dry and cool this weekend to get some final runs in before some goodies come.

also people from the S4 owners page on Facebook are planning on going santa pod in march 29th for the fast show to have some track time. Be good to see a few more B9s and to meet you guys.

Never got any lower than a 4s 0-60 with my Stage 2 remap, hit 3.83s with the DTUK Stage 2 however.

Didn't get the chance to do any 1/4mi or 60-130mph runs, but I'm going to try a 60-130mph run today with the hybrid if conditions allow.

Going down to SP on the 29th sounds like a plan!

that is strange that with he full map it didn’t produce a better time. Weird, I look forward to seeing some results with the hybrid. Do you plan on running WMI to help further with the fueling?

Sorry my bad, I'm currently Stage 3. My previous Stage 2 remap is what hit 4s.

I'm still working on launches at the moment so don't have any 0-60 numbers yet, maybe later on in the week.

Don't want to run WMI on a daily driver, so just have to wait on fueling upgrades. Still limited to 99RON though obviously.

fair enough does wmi does sound like a pain on a daily for sure. How easy was the swap or did you get a garage to do it for you?

Got a garage to do it for £250. Few months ago I was originally planning to do it myself but an Audi tech recommended I get it professionally installed as it looked like a pain in the balls to do.

To be honest, I’m very sceptical of “remaps” that are out there at the moment and JB4 stuff.

I am personally really looking forward to see what the APR and MRC offerings that are being worked on produce, both with and without turbo swaps. That’s where my cash will be going.

In addition, I’m holding out for proper numbers from Santa Pod or similar for 1/4s!

I was sceptical at first about the Jb4 as not many people over here have them for the S4. But was worth every penny in my opinion. I also went to Santa pod on a 30° day and managed to run a 12 second flat. A friend of mine with a rs3 normally runs 10.8 but was running 11.3 so I think on a cooler day a 11.5 second run would of been a achieved.
I will still be running the JB4 in March and would love to go up against some people who would have the APR map and other tuner maps to see how they compare. Also with the jb4 I can log everything and keep an eye on it unlike the maps people have pushed out there is no way until something does go bang or wrong then it’s to late.

Many people with the JB4s are waiting for maps to become available so that they can run them alongside the JB4. Best of both worlds.

For me, data logging and the safety measures implemented in the JB4 make it worth it alone.

Heading down to a local fabricator tomorrow to get a custom turbo inlet worked on. Will look similar to the one below. Unfortunately the stock inlet is restricting the GTX.
