It's come to that time of year again and I will be changing over the tires to the winter ones in the next few weeks

I thought about buying a second set of 19" wheels preferably genuine Audi wheels so I don't have to keep paying a tire fitter every spring and autumn to change them over. Has anyone else done the same and what wheels did you buy? I have the B9 S4

I did this with my S3 but bought a set of lightweight summer wheels and fitted the standard wheels with winter tyres.

Yeah that might be an option, I was looking at a set of Vossen’s 19” 8.5j x ET30 and I can just use the standard wheels for winter

It’s a good option as long as you have the storage space for the wheels and I bought a trolley jack for changing them over as the standard car jack wasn’t great

Yeah I got heaps of storage space which is fine, plus I got about three trolley jacks

Yup got a set of 18 in ATS temperament in blizzard grey just for the winter shod with Nokian tyres.
My decision to get these was based on the fact that they’re strong and load rated - perfect for hitting curbs and ditches in the snow

I used to do this - bought MAM wheels with Nokian tyres through MyTyres and changed them myself. Like you have the kit and the storage.

Then I decided it was too much hard work and now I pay someone to come around to the house to do it for me!

Hi what do think of the MAM wheels mate.

Tyreleader.co.uk are pretty good for wheels and tyres if you want to order a complete package. All wheels are TUV rated so have been tested on the actual vechicles they are designed to fit. They have some nice wheels at reasonable prices. They are in Germany so if Brexit happens who knows what's going to happen to prices / supply.

I’ve dropped down to 18s and got these with Nokians (that I’ve always rated highly) from mytyres

Hi what do think of the MAM wheels mate.

Absolutely fine and look OEM once you stick in Audi centres. They don’t like being dented though as they are lacquered. Other than that very happy with them - tyre and wheel package form mytyres was very reasonable and the wheels were assessed by TUV to be compatible with the vehicle.

Anyone know if 18” B8 S4 wheels will fit my B9?

I’ve still got my 18” winters from my B8 and hopefully they’ll fit the B9 too....?

Dimensions of 8J and 8.5J for the 8P RS3 - should answer your question:

8J wheel rim dimensions 85J wheel rim dimensions

Thanks
Which size is best for s4 saloon 2018 .
Much appreciated.

I would personally use the OEM size 8.5j with either the OEM offset ET40 or something like ET35 or 30 to bring the wheel out a little

I know others have gone wider 9j and 10j but that’s a little to wide for me

You have been very helpful .
Thank you very much.

I've got 17 inch winters from a B8 and they fit however the offset is different so they end up pushed inwards by about 6mm. I'm using 10mm spacers on summers and winters so that corrects it.

I have decided to stick the winters tires back on the stock wheels and buy some aftermarket wheels like 19” Vossen’s come spring

I will have to purchase some alloy protection like AlloyGator because the 245 Continental T860 gave very little protection!

Once these have done one winter I’m going to strip them and get them powder coated.

Thinking they might look good in graphite grey against the Navarra...

They look great on the S5... albeit in 20/21s !

Not got an S car but have just put Audi winter wheels on my A4. I don't think they look too bad compared to the originals. Oddly, these wheels are not permitted for the S4 so I can only assume that they don't clear the brakes as they are allowed on all other A4 models.

Before:
19inch summer

After:
18inch winter

They probably won’t fit on the S4 due to the calliper size, but they look good

I fitted some H&R spacers to my OEM wheels last week and the car definitely sits better. Am having the winter tires fitted this week, it’s already snowing in Scotland

Looking good fella. Not a bad compromise. Yes probably the massive callipers!

Sounds ominous. I love the snow to be fair. And don’t mind driving in it either with Quattro..

You know the rules. A picture with spacers is required. Did you go 10, 12... 20mm?!

Hi,

Would I be able to run my O.E. B8 winter wheels/tyres on my B9?

Both cars were TFSI Quattro Avants, just trying to find out if they will fit my B9 without any problems. Car is currently on 245/35/19 I can’t remember the exact size of the winter wheels but they are O.E. Audi and something like 225/50/17. Possible they are a slightly different offset but I hope I can use without spacers.

Thanks, any advice appreciated.

Here would be a good place to start to compare B8 to B9:

https://www.wheel-size.com/size/audi/a4/

But you will need to be more specific and/or at least "remember" with whatever your wheel size is and whatever your tyre dimensions are.

Whatever yo decide, however, using winter tyres in UK winter conditions is always a positive choice.

I have fitted the original 17' winter wheels from a B8 on a A4 B9 without any problems. Offset is different but I'm using 10mm spacers anyways.

Looking at that website the original wheel and winters only differ by approx 3-5mm on the offset, with the winter wheel being 225/50/17 and the normal wheels 245/35/19 they should be fine without spacers.

If anyone knows any different please message me.

I fitted them initially without spacers and they were fine. I fitted spacers only because they didn't look very good when the pushed so far into the arches.

Sorry not been on here for a while, yes I love the snow too and I do a lot of snowboarding when we get the snow. It’s looking like a good start to the season already

I fitted 10mm front and 12mm rear and they look perfect pictures below am planning on lowering the car with the Eibach pro kit next month

I fitted the winter tires a few days ago and I asked my tire fitter to fit some Alloy Gators to protect the rims as there is no protection from the tires. He couldn’t get them to fit so we left them off and when I done a search on a forum about them they apparently fly off and wreck the wings on the car!! so they won’t be getting fitted

I’m getting my first Audi soon. My perceived wisdom as someone new to Audi is that if you have a Quattro model (i.e. 4x4) as I do, you don’t need special winter tyres, the car will just work perfectly in the snow on its stock tyres?

Please don’t shatter my dreams and tell me I am wrong!?!

From my previous experience with B8 Quattro then yes you can just drive on normal tyres but you will notice a big difference when using winter tyres.

I no longer have my B8 but do still have the O.E. Audi winter wheels and tyres I bought with that car, they are going to get fitted in the next couple of weeks as I live in the south and the weather isn’t really cold enough yet.

If you have the space to store complete wheels then I would look at getting a set.

The recommended change over point is when the average ambient temperature is bellow 7 deg C, that when summer tyres start to lose their properties and winters start to gain. Oh on the plus side they handle better in wet conditions.

Hope this helps.
