Hi , I'm thinking of swapping the stock exhaust system and intake on my 1.6 8l
Does anyone have suggestions as to what decent systems and intakes are out there? Thanks.

To be honest there is not an awful lot of anything available for the 1.6 engine... its not something that gets much attention as its generally all about the 1.8t...

In all honesty you may be able to get more info in a VW forum on that engine than you will here as there will be more Golfs with that engine in than A3's and the chassis is essentially the same

Arguably any FWD A3 exhaust could be made to fit as a CAT back but couldn't tell you if there are any off the shelf options...

Intakes will be the same thing... most I have seen are just a filter, MAF adaptor and an alloy bend so you could knock something up yourself with off the shelf parts cheaply...

I just had a quick search on eBay... nothing notable returned for an A3 1.6 but searching for a Golf Mk4 1.6 netted a few results...

Bolting parts onto an NA engine won't give you much more than a bit of extra noise tbh... but heck I used to do this all the time when I was young... even ran twin 40 DCOE's on a Kent 1100cc engine in my Mk2 Escort (while I was in between 1.6 Kent swaps)... doesn't really make the car any faster (2.1ltr pinto with a fast road cam and twin 40's did though lol) but sounds fast :D

<tuffty/>

Main reason for the upgrade is due to my current exhaust is blowen and every garage is charging silly prices to repair it .. I'm not really looking to gain any bhp if I'm honest , just looking for a little extra noise haha. It's my first time owning a 8l and was unaware that VW parts would fit .. would it take much work to make mk4 parts fit??

Was this put on an s3 by any chance?

Swap out the inlet mani for a 2.0 8v one from a US golf/Jetta, find a camshaft from a MK1 golf GTi 1.6 110hp. A decent exhaust manifold and 50mm exhaust will help quite a lot.
