So about ten month ago had my scheduled oil change at main dealers. Then I read on this forum that they do not clean the filter . So as mot time I took to indy . They offered a oil change and filter/ pump clean. So went for that . When I picked the car up they showed me pictures of my filter. It was shocking. Had only done 25k miles and filter almost completely blocked in gunk. I had been lucky ,the mechanic said it was caught just in time. They told me fitting a new pump on the S3 that is out of warranty is a regular job. If they know , why does Audi not have it as a service item.

This video clip shows what's involved... The filter you are on about is shown 2 minutes in..

That looks nasty.
My car's just done over 22k .Will be checking this out asap now.
Never had any issues to be honest but 10000000000000% needs checking as I see issues related to this all the time.

It does also depend how the car is driven. And how many short journeys etc. But why this isn’t part of the schedule is beyond me or any one tbh. Oh yeah.... it means Audi get to sell haldex pumps just after 3 years ..... silly me

Just had mine done at a Indy for peace of mind , 3 years and 22k miles. He said it did not need done and only had a couple of bits of carbon in it. 90% of the time my car has a easy life.

Do you mind my asking in how much independent charged you, I’m looking at getting mine done when first MOT is due is all.

Thanks,

Chris

So you're questioning why the seller of the part isn't introducing a servicing regime to extend the life of the part..........mmmm

My haldex pump went at 20 something thousand miles and 3.5years old, replaced under warranty and my local Audi dealer (France) told me it is now part of the regime to clean the gauze. Not sure that will help as some gauzes are pretty bunged up at relatively low mileages.

just had mine done at 30k and 4 years as previous owner didn't bother. £63 for oil and filter clean and £72 labour

Think mine was about £120 oil and labour. Mine was clogged like the pictures shown.
I am curious what the material is that clogs the filter though.

Late reply. £35.51 for the oil, £45 for the labour plus vat so £96. Same as Audi would charge but they only change the oil.

Just had ours ( hers) done at the local independent in Wokingham.

Their comment was:
It was 'full of crud and the filter was covered in stuff - I'm a bit surprised at only 23k miles'

They did take a couple of phone photos for me but I haven't received them yet.

Think just for the service/clean the place I use charge £100 all in.

Then I read on this forum that they do not clean the filter .

Audi told @Daz4311 the same https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/audi-3rd-year-service.406550/#post-3510659 I then asked the guy I use and he said they clean the filter as part of the service....you can see his reply in that link down the page.

Well I think my Haldex has packed in...
Car started sounding like I was dragging a box full of cans behind me earlier today. RAC guy said he's 99% sure it's the diff. Towed to Audi dealer so they can investigate.

Sorry to hear that mate, under extended warranty by any chance?

Had you had it serviced at all, just thinking if Audi did it and didn't do the filter clean which has caused the issue maybe you could claim that way!

Yeah got Audi extended warranty, and had the oil change/clean done a year ago (when I bought the car) but I suspected at the time that Haldex was gone (had error codes about it showing when @DJAlix had my car in) but Audi had it in and said it was fine

Hi I think my pump might have gone just started to get wheel spin on front that’s never. Seemed as bad mines 2016 tdi it’s got extended warranty till 2021 but it’s been remapped for a few years which I’ve been open about with the main dealer. I had the haldex oil changed in March and chance they will still cover under warranty or has anybody got an idea of the price to replace it. Thanks for any replies

I think someone else said that here at some point so don't quote me on that! I'm waiting to hear from Audi now, I got the extended warranty with £100 excess so hopefully that's all I'm paying (assuming that it's indeed the Haldex that's gone)

Try cleaning your pump and an oil change first before you start throwing money st a new pump. Mines was wheel spinning too, so cleaved the pump and did an oil change which has kicked the Quattro system back into life. My filter was filthy which was the cause of my wheel spin.

I’ve just booked it in with Audi today for 12 of December hopefully it’s something n nothing then, i did get haldex service done in March. And I’ve got around 18month warranty left but it’s been remapped for the last few years hopefully they don’t blame that they spotted it was mapped so had to be honest about it. Lol

Audi and many India don’t clean the filter as part of the haldex service, as it’s “sealed for life”

Therefore it’s pointless just changing the oil with all that muck still in the filter. Audi will most likely just replace the pump if the filters blocked, which are under £450-£500 at the stealers I think.
Hopefully it’s sorted under warranty

Thanks lads it’s not booked in for a few weeks I might try a local garage if they will strip it down n clean it out. 1st there 3weeks before Audi could get it in

My FL S3 Saloon has been slipping especially when under lock.

Have 5/6 mm all around.

Could blocked filter be a cause?

Could be? What miles has the car done. Has it been driven hard ie numerous launches.

The pictures put up by Djalix is the same as mine was After main dealer did the "service". Filter just about blocked .
Picture tells it all.

19k I got it at 17k. Probably reasonably hard by the last person and definitely reasonably hard by me.

I’ve driven mine hard. And mines mapped but even so i think it’s the same system as off the s3 and golf R. They must be designed to take the punishment there meant to be fun cars. It’s just bad design that they say it’s a none service able filter. I’m booked in at Audi in 3weeks my car is crap with rear wheels running lol

They say it's non serviceable but if you look at the many clips on YouTube you can see that it's a ten minute job(if that?) to pull out the pump and undo the screws to pull out the filter. :icon thumright:
