I've got the 1.4 tfsi engine and plan to service it myself when the warranty has expired (6 months). The oil filter is low on the front left hand side of the engine, when viewed from the front. Is the only option to do it from underneath with the undertray removed or is there a knack to do it from the top? Also is the small plug near to the oil filler cap for an oil vacuum? Has any one serviced their own 1.4 yet? Google is only turning up 1.4 A3's and other configurations of the 1.4 engine where the oil filter is a cartridge type mounted at the top.

Can't help with the 1.4. I've done a couple of oil changes on my 2.0 TFSI though and use an oil extractor via where the dipstick would have been if it had one. Nice, clean and simple.

I have the 1.4 B9 2018 but I suspect its the same. The small plug in front of the oil filler was apparently once for a dipstick, its now useable with a suction pump if you have a narrow enough, long enough tube to go down until it touches the bottom of the sump. Oil filter is a bit tricky from the top and because of the angle its at you're bound to spill some on the undertray. Easy enough to take the trays off if you've got a ramp. Mine has a plastic/resin sump with electronic bit in the middle for the oil level sensor. Sump plug is not so easy to find unless you get right underneath.. Its a round plastic affair flush with the back of the sump. You undo with a broad flat screwdriver. New sump plug is about £4.50 from Audi.
