Hi, I'm new on this forum and hoping someone can advise. I have a 2017 S3 hatchback with mag ride suspension. When I drive over minor potholes or crosscut repairs on road etc, I hear a thudding noise from rear. Car is fitted with factory 19 inch wheels and has been to Audi main dealer in Belfast and they say they cant find any fault. I previously had a 2015 S3 with standard suspension on 18 inch wheels with no issues at all. My car is still in warranty and would really like to get sorted soon as its ruining my experience of an otherwise fantastic car. Any ideas anyone? Julian..

Have you tried it in other modes like comfort on the same piece of road. Does it still thud? I know mine does if I'm a bit too zealous over speed humps in dynamic, almost like the suspension cant react in time.

I believe there is a common issue with the rears making a banging noise on magride equipped cars regards the top mounts
I had it on my 2015 S3 sportback but as I had changed the springs I never bothered going the warranty route.
Its documented on here somewhere.

Probably from all the bouncing the car does when you go over road humps. It's ridiculous.

A 2017 had the new top mounts fitted and it was more of an issue with the saloons and and mag ride. There was a TSB for 2015-2016 vehicles with this issue. The dealer is fobbing you off, go for a test drive with their shop foreman and you showing the issue.

It was an issue for cars with magride. The saloon had magride as standard whereas on the 3 and 5 door it was an expensive option when you factor in the 19's. Still affected them though

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Firstly the noise is as bad in all modes, comfort, auto or dynamic. Its not too bad for first few miles, but seems to get worse afterwards. All tyres are at correct pressure, so I can rule that out Speed bumps don't seem to affect it much, its just small cuts across the road or minor pot holes where I hear the thud thud noise. I had a technician out with me for a test drive from Audi main dealer, but he said it was normal for mag ride equipped cars, which certainly sounds like a fob off to me, especially as I didn't buy it from them (bought from a main dealer in london and I live in n. ireland) They said they checked all audi TSB's, but nothing listed for my car. I was thinking of taking it to an independent who specialises in vw/audi who I'm hoping may be more helpful as if need be i'll pay even though car is only 2 years old. Im very curious about the top mounts which are being replaced on some versions and obviously i'm very interested in this for my car, but obviously audi will no doubt refuse to change them.

Yep, had the rear top mounts replaced under warranty on my RS3 and the Wife's S3 is being sorted this week.

Is your S3 and RS3 facelift models 2017 on. Audi will not replace anything without a TSB, which say there isnt any for my car?

Sorry, both are 2015 cars. There was definitely a TPI for top mounts for the PFL cars.

how much would this have been to replace?

My 68 plate S3 Saloon "thuds" at the back, I just put it down to very little rubber and hard suspension being the cause?? Maybe I should book it in?

It also makes a loud drone when slowly turning, doesn't have to be on full lock either, and then there's the vibration which appears to be coming from the bulkhead, very obvious on start up and you can hear it more at low rev's, switched the fake sound thing off which hasn't made it better.....think I read here that it could be a fuel line??

Worth me booking it in?

Not sure I can be mithered with the trips to and from the garage when they inevitably bodge something or are unable to find the cause and just says its alright or fixed - I'm not fully committed to the cause just yet :0)
