Hello everybody, I am hoping for some advice. I have a 1.4 tfsi cod and am looking to change the spark plugs.
I have a copy of the full online manual which shows tightening torque of the plugs as 30NM as per attached.
I have purchased NGK plugs
PZKER7A8EGS

which don't have a specific torque on the box, on NGK site it states for aluminium head then torque to 15-20nm as per 2nd image. this also has a warning that certain spark plugs differ from this rule and to refer to specific information. I cannot find this information anywhere so I really am at a loss as to how tight to torque them down. Has anybody fitted these type who can help?

Many thanks

Dunno the torque but I have always used hand tight then half a turn...........bit old skool perhaps but works for me. The difference between 15-20nm and 30nm isn't enormous.

Thanks, I used to do that too, its all this stuff I am reading about correct angle of attack of the electrode to aid plug cooling by gas flow etc. I assume that audi use Bosch plugs and they have 30nm compression washer, ngk must use a weaker one. maybe I"m over thinking this. might go 25nm and meet in the middle

Just to update, got a reply back from NGK technical

We believe the misleading information has arisen due to the fact that the vehicle manufacturer has not updated their manual when they changed from M14 to M12 plugs. The correct torque measurement is 15-20 Nm for these spark plugs

at least I know how tight now

i am just about to do this. Could you send me a copy of the workshop manual for me to reference against?

Yeah thats great thanks very much my torque wrench doesn’t go that low. Have you got a link to where and what type of plugs you got.

if my car is under extended warranty is it better to fit the audi plugs rather than upgraded plugs

I believe that VAG now use NGK, they are OEM approved so I don't see it as an issue myself, but the Bosch ones are cheaper so its a matter of choice. my warranty has just finished so it doesn't concern me.
my plugs came from EU link which is a motor factors in and around East Anglia. you can mail order them, a quick search and Ive found these

My Torque wrench is from Halfords

https://www.halfords.com/workshop-t...ches/halfords-advanced-torque-wrench-model-60

this does the plugs but the coil packs its a case of common sense tightening really. you could get a torque wrench that covers these ranges

https://www.screwfix.com/p/magnusso...umGdEvbiskXHhjtkKBAFccOf-EUCq234aAs_VEALw_wcB

but I really don't see the necessity to be honest.

Hope this helps

Just replaced the spark plugs with NGK to 20Nm

Got the engine warm and pulled the coils out with a T10530 tool. Waited for engine to cool and swapped the plugs
