Recall affecting CREC engines (2014+ S4)

My S5 went in for the recall today, 10 hours later and the car is not done and collection will have to be tomorrow.

@Flowrider99 - That's abysmal. If it is simple bad management and they never started the job, then at least that's better than they started the job and hadn't finished it 10 hours later because that would be incompetence. Mine was done "while-u-wait" and took only a couple of hours.

@jdp1962 - are you referring to https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/? Mine showed up as "No outstanding safety recalls found" within a few days.

That’s the one.

I found out about this recall when checking out the car prior to buying it, getting it done in a couple of weeks once the Audi extended warranty kicks in (car came with 3 months RAC warranty but I'm not taking any chances) just in case they find anything

Not that it matters now, but it was illegal for the seller to have sold you a car with an outstanding safety recall.

Yeah kinda annoying I have to take it in myself.
Plus there's a missing valet key which I'm trying to get them to remove from the car

I wish I had known that last September when I bought mine!
However mines going into Cheltenham Audi tomorrow for the recall work to be completed.

Monitor your coolant level for a while to check for leaks.

Funny you should mention that, mine has had a strong smell of coolant since it had the recall done, it's not loosing any coolant but was overfilled when I got it back, so I syphoned some out to take it down to the correct level but still getting the smell.
Do they remove the supercharger to carry out the work does anyone know?

Hmm I can see a bit of liquid underneath the coolant and reservoir and it's slightly below max, I'll keep an eye on it. Could be rain as it's been raining overnight, I can't smell coolant.

Don't know if they take the supercharger out but I suspect that they do as they sorted out my PCV valve for free which is underneath it so I'm guessing they were in that area anyway hence didn't charge.

Yes the supercharger has to be removed in order to access the fuel rails which are replaced in the recall work.

Monitor the coolant level over quite a long time. With mine I was convinced after the recall work that it was very, very slowly losing coolant, based on residue in the engine bay. However a 6 hour coolant system pressure test done by an indy was good and they could not find a leak. I continued to monitor and it was still slowly losing coolant at a rate of about 2 drops per mile (100ml topped up over 1000 miles). Based on the spray residue, I was 90% sure the leak was from one of the two rubber elbow hoses to the supercharger. These would have been disconnected as part of the recall work. Anyway I had both the elbows replaced with new hoses and problem solved. No more topping up and no more spray residue.

I had the following fault show on VCDS, but this was during the time that the car was at Audi and has not returned since clearing it so hopefully nothing to worry about:

I had exactly the same DTC on mine (from 8th Aug 2019) so indeed it is probably expected for that type of work.

How can we check if the recall has been done

Have checked the MOT site and it doesn’t show anything outstanding.

I have only had the car since last November

Contact your local Audi dealer, I'm sure they'd be able to check for you

As I have noted, it is illegal to sell a car with an outstanding safety recall so I would expect the car that @Darren McDonnell bought would have already had it done, and the MOT site check proves it. But asking a dealer to check would give peace of mind. The work code is 24DP.

The problem I have is that although my 24DP recall was carried out in September last year (and I have documentation to prove it) it’s still showing as outstanding on the DVSA website. I have been fighting a battle of words and nerves with Maidstone Audi (they carried out the work) and Audi UK about who is responsible for informing the DVSA. Both keep saying it’s up to the other to do it. It’s driving me mad and if it wasn’t for the fact that I’ve had other priorities that were more important, I’d have escalated it to a written complaint to the respective CEOs.

That time is now coming, however.

Indeed illegal if it's 'known', however many dealers don't even check so they can claim that they weren't aware of the recall!

Finally! Thirteen months after I had the 24DP recall done, Audi has updated the information.

That's so long! Mine's already shown as done :)
I know! I've spent all that time in a war of words with Audi UK Customer Services and the dealer in which both repeatedly denied it was their responsibility. But I was relentless and would not back down. :)

Great Jeff - now you can sell it!

P.S. Be careful not to show too much in a screenshot. I don't think your bookmarks give away too much information but not showing them would be better.
