Does anyone know if the oil pick up pipe needs doing on the amk engine or the bam engine or both thankyou for any advice help thanks.

engine code is irrelevant... all 1.8t's can suffer from the oil pickup getting blocked up (they are all more or less the same engine mechanically)... how badly is normally subject to how the engine has been looked after but they inherently pick up debris over time...

Considering how cheap and easy a job it is to do its worth doing for peace of mind

Always worth doing. On both my S3s, I have changed it, one had 75k on it and another 90k at the time and the 90k one had more bits in it which was due to it had had less services for its milage than the other. The long life servicing will make it more likely to be blocked plus bits of plastic from broken dipsticks can fall in and get stuck too. Get it done for peace of mind, it’s not a bad job even on axle stands.

So did you do it yourself then I take it how long did it take you, I am currently looking out for an s3 at the right price although trying to save up as well lol have you had two or got two are they a bam or amk engine drive wise is there much in them Thank you.

Yeh I did it myself, it’s easy enough. Plenty of guides around for the S3 and mk4 golf. Takes a couple of hours. If standard, the BAM is slightly faster due to the 15bhp difference between them but once you start to modify them, the difference between them almost disappears. Once remapped, they both remap to the same.

IMHO - It’s worth doing the oil pump at the same time if you’re approaching 150k and plan on keeping the car. It’s only a matter of time before that will start to fail.

Thank you for the advice what would you say is a sensible amount to remap to or modify to thanks.
