Hi all,
Looking for some advice before I make a decision on whether to scrap my beloved 04 2.5tdi cab.

Had a moderate front end collision yesterday. The bonnet is crumpled, front grille smashed along with damage to the bumper. The crash bar behind appears to be buckled and the radiator has serious damage, confirmed by it dumping my coolant immediately on the road and any attempts to refill are quickly leaked out. The fans are damaged also and there is a really loud whirring noise when revving the vehicle. Is this damage something that can be repaired with reasonable cost or is it a lost cause. My insurance is 3rd party and although the car is of modest market value I really do not want to part with it. Any information on probable damage would be appreciated also any places to get cheap parts...2nd hand no problem. Its metallic silver. Thanks

There's loads on Ebay if you look for "Audi A4 breaking"
Most of them have engine faliure so wings bonnet lights e.t.c should all be good.

Seems that the 2.5tdi s are almost worthless now.My 04 avant was valued at 650 in an insurance quote this week.I too would hate to part with it but at least it means you might be able to pick up a cheap one with all the bits needed but you will need to be sure theres no damage to the front of the engine on yours. Can you still get the bumper off?

Also from experience chances are that the plastic front panel / rad carrier will be cracked and broken. Doesn't seem to take much to cause this so would look for a second hand front panel / carrier too

I really feel for you - I'd be gutted if it happened to me.

Mine is a one owner, 2004 , 1.8T quattro S Line with 75k miles only. It's value ( one of the online 'what's it worth' ) … was ….£1400:blink:

I've spent £2.5 k on it over the last year, new tyres, cambelt etc, complete new front suspension but I'd spend much more to replace it ( would quite like the idea of a Golf R wagon …. )

I paid more than that for mine back in September this year, sounds like the same car apart from mine had 79k on the clock lol!
Does the valuation vary depending on the list of extras? as mine has pretty much every one available...:sunglasses:

Extras and options dont seem to make any difference to a vehicles valuation from an insurance point of view from previous experience. That said, if you can find a few examples of the same model with similar mileage and spec etc that are advertised online for more than the valuation you get, then you can forward them to the insurer to prove your car is worth more and usually they will improve their offer

Agree,
I was told ( a long time ago now ! ) that you lost the cost of any extras the minute you drove out of the showroom - but it made it more likely that you would sell it , privately, further down the line ( but the price would still not cover the cost of the extras).

The extras we have on the A4 and S3 are because we wanted them - and accepted the cost implications.

As the A4 is 15 years old the extra cost has been absorbed over many years !! Actually with new front arms, four new tyres and recent cambelt service I've probably spent more than it's worth this year :dizzy:

I know the extra's won't come into it on insurance but I find that valuation £1400 amazing as I was looking for ages and there's a lot of rubbish out there for more than that and if it's a quatty people will be asking even more regardless of condition. If my car was written off this week I know for sure I'd be looking at £2.5 k at the very least to replace it :flushed:

The market for cars of this type and age is now very narrow. We have to accept that they were never mainstream and higher running costs means less demand as they get older.I haven't seen one just like mine for sale for a long time and when it goes I wouldn't see any point in looking for a replacement. It does seem to be reluctant to fade away though and there is a certain pleasure in knowing you are driving something a little unusual even if others don't know that.
