Carista App Now Avaliable For the 8V A3/S3 - PFL & FL Covered

Which is best, ODBEleven or Carista ? Will ODBEleven enable VIM ?
Not used Carista but I think you can do more with ODBEleven.

A year or two back I used ODBEleven on a PFL car to enable VIM for a member on here with success.

Anyone know, does Carista still offer a free 7 day trial when using the app with a 3rd party ODBII adapter (and a new instal of the app)?

Not sure but I have only seen the free trial when you buy the official Carista dongle from Amazon. Think you get 1 month free if you sign up for 12months but you can change it within your free month.

Carista dongle was £12 on Amazon a while ago. Some special offer was on. That included a free month subscription.

Has anyone actually used the dongle to wind back the handbrake? Whats the process, because you have to turn the ignition off to stop the battery draining, does the dongle remember which step you were up to so when you come to turn ignition back on and calibrating the handbrake. Does the dingle just pick up where it left off?

I don’t understand why they cannot code out the flaps... they have beta testers willing to work with them. Nuts.

Does anyone have any idea what the different versions are in this section? Which one do you guys recommend it should be on? I’ve just bought my S3 and it’s set on ‘ASR off / ESC off version 2’ Thanks!

Is it possible to adjust LED headlights range with Carista.
My car was lowered last week and now it seems that the headlights doe snot show long enough.

After some research it seems like OBD Eleven is able to do the adjustment.

Is there not a screw for manual adjustments?
No it does not. And neither can Carista. So VCDS is my last chance.

There’s should be a small plastic adjusting screw on the headlight normally white to make adjustments and it should be done on a light calibration rig or the light testers at mot stations as you don’t want to set it too low and you see nothing equally you don’t want to set it too high and blind everyone else.
The motors in the headlight is designed to compensate for weight between front and back of car not really for adjusting the headlight level as if you set it too close to the limit it can’t compensate for weight as the allowable movement is maxed out and end up burning out the motors.

Xenon and Standard LED headlights need putting in to service mode before any physical adjustments are made, a "basic settings" procedure should then be completed.

I have just tried the mirror dip on my A3 S-Line 68 plate, however I cannot get it to work. I have put the car into reverse, selecting the near side mirror and dipping it to the possition but this doesnt seem to take... I helped someone with an S3 check their and managed to set up theirs all OK (no changes needed to be set)

Further to my post above, I do not have folding mirrors so looking through some previous posts I may not have the required parts to set this.

Also I have noticed that setting items with the App doesn't always take effect, for instance the beep on lock.

I have done this on my pfl and fl a3, neither had folding mirrors. Sometimes you have to do it a couple of times, or you have to put the car in reverse and set the mirror to the required dip position

I have tried it a number of ways, always popping into reverse and selecting the mirror and dipping... I have a support ticket open with Carista and sent them the details from the App today...

It would be handy to know what options you set on yours to get this working, as there is 2x to set the mirror dip and 1x for the option to show in the menu (doesnt seem to work at all on my car)

I recall having to open the bonnet of my car when I was applying some changes. Not the dipped mirror option as I had this option active from factory.

Its £15.99 on Amazon, don't think you can get it much cheaper. Comes with a free month from the app store or play store.

How much is it normally ? will I be able to do all the cool mods with the free month, I would like Pace Car Indicators and Needle Sweep and rear car parking screen.

I don’t think you can do pace indicators with Carista (you never used to be able to). Needle sweep will work. I think rear parking screen only works with PFL. You can also add mirror dip, oil temp display, beep on lock/unlock with menu and some more

Mate has it & just activated a few things on my 2018 SQ5,which 12 months ago when i got the car we could not set anything so must be a newer version?.

Pretty awesome for just £16.

Would be nice if they could get the exhausts working on FL, have disconnected in the meantime but would like easier control of on/off.

Completed:
Reverse mirror dip
Lane change signal count
Activation of few bits on MMI menu

I also changed the throttle response behaviour from Gradual to Direct to give it a go. Running in D I quite like it, it does feel like more direct control over throttle rather than a considered delay in response when in the normal mode but don’t think it helps the mpg...

Has anyone else had a go? What are your thoughts?

Tried to activate change DRL on dash which I assume is MMI, but this doesn’t seem to have worked. Where should it appear?

I’m not holding my breath for them to get the flaps option working. Quite a few people asking for it and they can’t be bothered to throw some resources at it? Odd decision on their part.

So Carista support have finally come back to me stating I need memory seats to have the mirror dip.
I have also now done the indicator change to 4x flashes and set the beep on unlock.
The odd thing is the beep on lock shows in the MMI but unlock doesn't...
Going to have another look at what options I can add/change before I cancel the subscription.

No, memory seats are not an option within the A3 platform. Mirror dip is just not supported within new newer vehicles. (Edit: without folding mirrors that is).

"Tone on lock" is just the label Audi have given the "beeps" function. Unticking this deactivates Beep on Lock and Unlock globally. There is no way to toggle one without the other via the MMI, only via coding.

You need electric seats to get mirror dip? Sounds odd. I don’t and worked fine on my none folding mirrors.

Thanks for your reply and clarifying the tone on lock and mirrors.

Can I ask what year is your a3/s3? I might make an enquiry with the local dealer to see if they know anything.

my pfl and fl a3’s didn’t have folding mirrors but both had mirror dip working via carista

I had a 15 plate PFL A3 and enabled the mirror dip via VCDS but assume Carista does the same thing really.

I just did it on my 17 plate FL S3 with Carista.

I think I did activate, save, deactivate, save, activate, save as it didn’t work first time.

No folding mirrors or electric seats on either.

I don’t see why the seats would be linked to the mirrors.

Way above my head, @DJAlix will know much more than me but putting in/out of reverse must activate a set of relays and it links the up and down relays on the electric mirrors.

Memory seats = was needed for Audi A3 8P and Dipping mirror. Memory Seats are not even an option for the A3 8V.

Dipping mirror within some 2018 cars and all 2019 vehicles seems to need folding hardware to now work. I have not been able to activate it without so far and I use VCDS etc

Dealer will not be interested as your trying to activate a feature which your vehicle is not supposed to have.
