Water in spare tyre well-Avant

I was doing the wiring to a new sub install on my avant and when i pulled all the trim out under the spare tyre there was quite a bit of water sat there. Mainly under the metal reinforcement panels. Soaked it all up and dried it- must of been a good tea cup of water.
Both side of the cubby's are dry, just the usual small stones that end up in there from the vent flaps
So 2- days later after a rainfall the right side spare tyre area is full of water.
Any one had any similar issues on their car and what the cause/culprit was?
 
No idea but have you got a panoramic roof ? Maybe something with the rear washer ?
 
A friend had a pipe split on the rear wash wipe on his golf R & it completely soaked the rear of the car so could possibly be that or maybe a leak from the rear lights ? Or boot seal ?
 
Be the pipe that goes through motor that carries the washer fluid.
It gets corroded and/or the connection breaks off

Wow I've just read your retrofit list, that is mega impressive!!!! I would say regarding the water in boot, check your seals obviously, clear all drain points at rear of the car, confirm the washer fluid is holding and pipework not damaged corroded. But the fact it was wet after heavy down pour suggests it be more in line with drain points and the rear seal. can you soak it up and then get the better half to spray hose onto rear of the car, starting from bottom up slowly with you sat inside boot, watching for the point where it comes in?

Can I ask, was the high beam assist and the multilane climate difficult to retrofit? Im interested in this.

Thats the plan... get a water soak test done. Only bung ive found missing is a very small one on the boot floor which would defy gravity by letting in water and ending up in a higher resting area.

High beam assist was was easy retrofit. new mirror with camera and some new wiring added. 4 zone climate was much more intense retrofit which involved dash removal, complete fan blower unit removal ( although i did without evaccing the AC system), seats removed, interior trim removed and carpet out.
Its very doable but just a lot of work; not difficult if you know what your doing

Thanks, i think i will add some dye tot he washer tank and cycle it through to the rear and see if the coloured liquid ends up in the floor.

Sounds like that would be a good idea.

Right, the multizone climate. Could it be an easy retrofit to just change the control panel in the front? I just want the LCD display. Would it be a like for like swap with my current system? ( Mine is the two zone S-Line black edition ultra 2014 ).
 
Nope,changing just the control panel will not work, even when you have CP the functions will not be recognised. Yes it works a little bit but when you need for eg full defrost on the screen you wont get it and coming intot winter you will suffer from recirculation issues
 
Bar changing the front panel what else would be needed to achieve full functionality then? Sorry for the off topic convo.
 
you would need:
control panel
4 zone heater blower/matrix box
rear panel
centre tunnel ducts
underfloor ducts to b pillar vents
new dash vents
air quality sensor
wiring
cp removal & VCDS
 
had a similar issue in the golf, turned out the rear boot seal was worn so replaced it for new and it solved it.
 
update:
Done the heavy soak test with a pressure washer and a normal hose and nothing. Had a fair bit of rain over last 2 days and again nothing. Tried the rear washer as well and monitored it with dye and around the rear hatch- nope.
Tyre well is still dry at the moment and still all bare.
Plenty of rain yet to come so lets see. Sods law- i will end up putting everything back into the boot and it will get wet again

Put all the boot back together yesterday as ive finished the sub install and its been bone dry. Nothing at all with the rain or the soak test so lets see. I will keep an eye on it

It's been a couple of months, any news?
I think I might have a similar issue.
 
Ill report back in about a week or less as im still out of the country at the moment
 
I may be a bit late and/or completely wrong but I had a similar issue.
Previous owner had the fold out tow bar retrofitted. Where the crash bar used to be (now removed) there are two holes where it bolts into.
The two rubber bungs which had been fitted in place of the bolts were letting in water.

Worth having a look whether you have the tow bar or not, as it seems to be a weak point.
