summarise my experience they’re pretty bomb proof, just make sure it’s been serviced regularly, they do eat brakes as a heavy fast beast (rears wear faster than fronts from the Tcs I found lol) gearbox should be smooth, and torque by the bucket full. There have been reports of turbo failures but didn’t come across that myself. I had the airbag slip ring changed as the steering squeaked but apart from that ran for 5 years faultlessly.

Coming from an 8p s3 you should be impressed at the torque, I did the same mapped 2010 s3 - 2013 bitdi, Now on an s6
Enjoy!

Thanks Donkeyice.

Its not a loaded version so less things to go wrong! Id have to say going from a 370bhp manual s3 to this is very different. Maybe not as quick, but such effortless driving and still ludicrously fast in the real world. I think ill grow to love it. As long as nothing goes wrong!

I do have a question..

I went to book it into Audi leicester for cam belt and water pump, and also to get the tiptronic gearbox oil changed..

They checked my vin on there computer and said its cam chain and doesn't have a belt to change, and gearbox is a sealed unit and doesnt need doing..
Thats 1100 quids worth i dont need doing???

Yup engine is a chain, not sure if there’s an aux belt that needs doing though.

The gearbox is a funny topic, audi say sealed for life (3 years) ZF say 100k km, there are places that can do it and worth doing if keeping a while but plenty running high mileage without a change

Well heres the brisk reply from the gearbox manufacturer...

Good afternoon Dean,

Many thanks for your email.

I can tell you that even though these gearboxes are described as sealed for life we do still recommend that you carry out oil changes at service intervals.

In order to be able to tell you which oil service kit you will need I will need your car registration and Vin number if you can supply this , also let me know what speed the car is and any other information you have

Unfortunately we will not be able to issue you with pricing but these kits should be available to buy from Euro car parts, who are one of our biggest dealers.

We also have a list of garages that are members of our Protec scheme they have access to training and technical information and help in order to be able to work on your particular type of gearbox, if you let me have your location I can also let you have details of any garages competent to carry out this oil service, that are as close to you as possible.

And is it worth doing..... Its just touched 90k.

No issues with Gearbox at all... Just trying to keep it that way!

Zf say 80k . Mine had done 100k when I enquired and the zf tech said not to bother as I had missed the max recommended mileage.

Said they had changed the oil in one over 100k and it actually caused damage. Something to do with how the gearbox learns.

I chose not to do mine now on 140k. Felt wrong at the time but I followed their advise.

Where did you get that done mate, mines smooth as silk but preventative maintainence seems a good idea.

I’d love a recommendation for someone in the North West as well, mines on 51k, I was thinking of making initial enquiries.

Buxton2901, have you got a 3.0 bitdi too? have you mapped it at all? reason i ask is i have one i am in newcastle too, and having huge issues with the 'torque converter' slipping etc at low speeds, you ever had issues where you come to a slow 15 mph and it seems to go into neutral and just rev and not go anywhere? wondering if the oil gear box service mentioned is worth doing? only done 40k on clock though :(

cheers
