Permanantley Live 12V Socket

Perhaps, but it could also be part of the MMI system (which I suspect) as I think it turns off after 10 minutes with no ignition like the rest of the MMI. I'm sure I tested it before anyway and it did this.

That makes sense I guess. In which case I wonder how difficult it would be to (neatly) run a cable from the power socket at the rear of the centre console into the armrest?

Having not got the car yet, I can't check it easily...

If you spec the luggage and storage pack - you get an additional 12V socket in the boot - surely this would be a much safer place to leave something on charge (if safe) out of sight ?

I want to put my speed camera beeper in the armrest (to use in conjunction with the MMI visual alerts described in another thread). It needs to be permanently powered, otherwise it switches off when the battery runs out after a few hours. Then I'd have to remember to switch it on again, which I probably would forget to do!

Yes it is very easy to thread a cable from the rear 12V socket, to the cubby hole in the armrest.
Because the lid doesn't actually close the cubby hole, it merely "hovers" over the top of the compartment, so it won't trap any cables.

by default the 12V socket only comes on with the ignition - but it turns out it's very easy to make it a 'permanent on' socket.

Apologies for digging up an old post, but I only recently discovered this and wanted to say thanks!

It was one of the things I missed about the 8P and I find it very useful, and even with a few odds and sods plugged in all the time (TomTom and various USB adaptors) I haven't noticed any battery drain issues :)

Used this mod today to make a non essential live powered fuse for my dashcam hardwire install. Works perfectly.

My 8P is permanently live. While I want the Inverse to be true in my 8V (always live), do you know whether it is possible to make non-permanently live in the 8P, i.e switch off with ignition?

I think you will find the information you want in the first post in this thread. It just involves moving a fuse from one position to another. Be careful what you have permanently connected to the 'always live' sockets because if you don't use your car for a while it could drain your battery.

Just a quick note, as nobody had actually confirmed this works: I finally got around to trying it at the weekend and it works a treat - no longer do I have to switch the ignition on to pump up the tyres!

Yes it works, did it on 2 8v , a 14 S3 and a 15 COD. Great mod.

I know there are some on here who wanted this, as by default the 12V socket only comes on with the ignition - but it turns out it's very easy to make it a 'permanent on' socket.

I discovered this completely by accident while wiring in my dashcam today. The fuse for the cigarette lighter is apparently movable depending on which option you want (I think Peugeot do this too, I have heard anyway). I haven't actually tested this myself however, but only discovered the functionality while poking around the fusebox with a multi-meter today.

Here's a picture of my fusebox, which can be found by removing the panel at the back of the glovebox - there's a finger hole there to make it easy:

If you look just to the right of the 2 15A fuses (the blue ones), you'll see a 20A fuse (yellow) that seems to be going between 2 rows of fuses. I looked up the fuse in the manual to see what it was, and it's the fuse for the lighter socket / 12V socket. The reason for this is because the fuse can be moved depending on whether you want 'on with ignition' or 'on permanently' mode for the the socket. As it's shown there, it's in its 'default' place of on with ignition only, but if you were to move it up half a fuse-length to be in line with the 30A and 40A fuses on the row above, it would be permanently on. I've confirmed with a multi meter that the contacts above the fuse are permanently on and the lower one (the one that the bottom of the fuse is currently in) is on with ignition only. The middle contact (that the top of the fuse is currently in) goes to the socket itself.

Like I say - I haven't actually confirmed it 'end to end' as it were (as I have nothing to plug into the socket anyway!), but I hope someone finds this useful. It's certainly an undocumented feature!

This is just an absolute brilliant find!

Over on the Octavia forum we discuss enviously the Audi's with their ignition switched sockets. On the Octies they are permanently live ( and no fuse moving trick). I'm in the middle of trying to hardwire my dash cam (to ignition switched fuse 48) because I can't just plug into the permanently live 12v sockets. Isn't it funny how we want the opposite of what we get.....!

Wow that’s a great find . Do you know what fuse is for the phone box. My wireless charging phone box doesn’t seem to be working.
