Hello,

Had my SQ5 just over 15 months (bought from new) and it has been a dream to drive and completed around 12,000 miles.

However, I wanted to raise a few 'minor issues'
  • The 360 degree camera does not engage automatically when reversing, need to go into the MMI and change this to Camera (every time!)
  • The Panoramic Sunroof now creaking and rattles (all but on the smoothest road).
Anyone else had these issues and did Audi fix them

So I have booked this in for Audi to take a look and was told that there was also a Wheel Arch Cover recall which also needed to be done.

My 2018 SQ5 has just been with Audi for 3 weeks having an air con fault sorted( the Evaropter packed in) & it's a huge job. Dash & windscreen out to fix it. Got car back now & it's all ok but not pleased with the time it took. I've got the Pano roof & it never makes a sound, car has just done under 10.000 miles. The arch liner was done when in for the aircon fix. Had to take it back in june when i lost all the D.A.B radio signels but they sorted it there & then with a softwear up date. Love the car but it's taken the edge of it a bit now.

I’ve got the pano roof on my Sline model, which has done 12000 miles since new in January 2018, and no creaks or rattles from mine....fingers crossed!!!!

Probably the best car Audi have to offer:

For sure I'd let our RS3 and TT go way before our SQ5 "DIESEL"!!!

No issues with the pano roof or cameras.

Had an issue with central locking but all fixed after a software update.

Not really Nev. Truthfully, I/we do look at ALL other options all the time, both new and older; its just we have a good balance for our needs - and admire, sometimes, that what suits others but not necessarily suits us.

And for sure I don't knock other brands or other people's choices as there are way too many factors involved - and I doubt any of today's motor vehicles are unworthy of the job for which they were intended.

How fortunate we are to have the choices available:

Had some rattling from the pano roof but when the roof was cold. I believe it is to do with the glass shrinking. So once the car is warmed up inside and therefore the roof also, any noises disappeared. Time of year for this type of thing.

I have an issue with the MMI connect app which says network error. Been online and changed my pin in the myaudi are and will try and reconnect to the car next time im in it.

Only other niggle is that when the car went back for the window regulator recall work to be done they must have taken the door cards off and now i have a rattle in the drivers door, which is annoying as i have the B&O sound system which is quite bassy, so the rattle is there a lot.

I'll take it back one day soon.

Go on, I'll join in... how do you know Audi are best for you if you dont try the competition from time to time?

I loved my SQ5 (mk 2 petrol) but there is some stuff about my new BMW that is better....

True, I guess, but I have done a fair bit of evaluating over the last 51-years - started in 1968 - of driving

Sloooooowing dooooown now, a little... :whistle2:

Me too - had Vauxhall, BMW, Peugeot, Volvo, Rover, Nissan, Renault, Mercedes, VW, Fiat, Ford, Jeep, Mazda, Mini, Alfa, and Audi in various guises throughout my life since 1985. More of some brands than others, and some good ones and some less good ones - sometimes wearing the same and model, sometimes 24 years apart, sometimes back to back.

There aren’t many bad cars any more but there are some that suit your needs and wants at a particular point in your life better than others. I like to keep my options open (although both my cars now are versions of BMW at both ends of the spectrum...)

Misled you there, started in 1963 with a 1950 Rover 60 so 56-years of motoring but mostly in Lotus cars of my own and many belonging to others - even had to unload and build 'em ourselves back in the early 70's:

Europa unload

Was purely going on your “will stay AUDI” comment. Likewise I don’t knock other brands, always good to have choice and personal preferences and needs are different as well as change with age. Many many knockers of SUV’s on this forum, but as above, preference and need come into it.

To be fair, a lot of your “evaluating” was across the Audi range

Hmm, let me think:

1 x Alfa (was 1st, and never again!) 3 x Opel/Vauxhall, 4x VW, 3 x Ford, 2 x Toyota, 4 x Audi, 2 x BMW (incl current one), 2 x Mini (incl current JCW) ...so a good spread

Now that is a proper Lotus...

This too, isleaiw, in 1984, about to undergo a chassis swap and 5-speed gearbox upgrade:

PS: the Europa is now closer to you, and is actually in Herts, lol, than it is to me...

That may be true, ish, Nev; but I'd just like to point out that we regularly/weekly (and in about 1-hours time, even) drive past Knights South Staffordshire BMW; Radford bank, Lichfield Road, Stafford ST17 4PQ - and we have stopped by, once, earlier this year, pre SQ5, to review; we didn't stay long...

And we do have to make that extra effort to get to Stafford Audi; Hurricane Close, Stafford ST16 1GZ - who do have great staff and an excellent coffee machine :yum:

Always had a soft spot for a straight-six DIESEL, Nev; Hamamatsu, Japan, 2005 (excuse the hat :sadlike:):

100% agree Nev, :thumbs up: how boring it would be if we all drove the same...

Gotta go - Stafford County 'H' calls...

Lotus Elan - back in the 1970s doing my apprenticeship in a large Ford dealer one was assigned to each department for 3 month assignments, including Recovery. One afternoon we went to recover an Elan that had hit a tree - double fatality. The apprentice always gets the cra**y job...mine was to collect up the body panels...most of the bits would have fitted in a carrier bag. It's a memory that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

whereas my one Alfa did 17k in 10 months and never missed a beat. Wasnt the bst car to drive but it looks superb. 156 JTD 20v 2.4 5 cylinder.

One vauxhall, one Jeep and the one and only renault have been my unreliable ones - the Renault was a Grand Espace 2.2 dt RXE, was like driving your armchair. When it worked... at least the dealership was great and always got me another 7 seater from within the group if broken and I needed one!

My current Mini isnt so fancy - Cooper 5 dr with Chilli and a few other bits, was my daughters and she needed something bigger, its perfect for the station run when I dont walk!

I had a fair few vauxhalls and peugeots as my brother was a mechanic and worked in both franchises....it helped with getting services done!

My brothers equivalent was to collect a car that someone had committed suicide in (along with killing his 2 kids) - exhaust smoke makes a mess of the inside...

For sure that's how it was back then:

Kept mine for 37-years and never hit anything, never let me down, never went to anyone else's garage either other than for MOT - and then when sold it paid for my RS3 :yahoo:

I mean, paid £1k for it in 1978, did 200K plus, and sold it 37-years later for near £50K - and it still comes back for some TLC... :friends:

That said, our 2016 diesel SQ5 is 'THE' perfect ambulance for us - leaving our RS3 and TT for FUN

Go BMW if you MUST but here on ASN? C'mon, we're just being nice

Enjoyed the GSi3000 but it sure became 'dull' afer 10-miles, just did everything sooooo well, but zero excitement - the Lotus Carlton was more FUN but believe me, if you'd a history with Lotus Cars, you'd want someone else to own the one you were drivin;

I always wanted a Carlton GSi. Did have a Cavalier GSi2000 for a few weeks until I took it to Newcastle on a works trip... and it disappeared...

A superb long-leg machine was the 1993 Vauxhall Carlton GSi 3000, here mid-France - still going SOUTH - 1998:

Still no Sat Nav, mobile phones, etc: just a map and a need to indulge in Rhone wines...

I remember having an Omega as a hand-me down company car - might have been a 2.0GL ...it was silver and we renamed it HMS Omega for it's boat-like handling - oh yes and the seats were awful too.

Thanks for all your replies..albeit gone off on a tangent slightly..

Sunroof now fixed and no more rattles after being in the Audi garage for 3 hours..wheel arches done (not sure what they did) and also noted that 3 tyres may need to be replaced (3mm or less is Audi recommendation). A cost of £356 per wheel..no chance.

Asked if they priced matched and said yes..I visited a few websites and noted £203 for exactly the same tyre and spec....wouldn’t price match in the end...

Pleased that they fixed the sunroof (will get the tyres done elsewhere).

Glad you got the roof fixed, surprised they said 3 tyres as I was under the impression that the Quattro drive required two at a time as a minimum, same axle, and a maximum tread difference between both axles...

Not surprised they were uncompetitive on price! £203 is a good price for 21” tyre though, assumethat is delivered and fitted?

Yes I was surprised as well as the other tyre was 4mm..I did say that i’ll wait and replace all 4 tyres together..

Yes that is 21” tyres and were perrili ncs r01. However i’ve Only done 11,000 miles so may look at a more longer lasting tyre..I am warming to the Goodyear suv tyre..

I nearly went for the Goodyear (also to replace Pirellis) but luckily (I'm a PS4 fanboy :) ) Michelin brought out the PS4 SUV in the 255/40 21 at just the right time. Fitted 4 a couple of months back and would recommend them.

Does the PS4’s have a rim protector? I can get all 4 done for £934 (10% promotion) or £884 for Goodyear..the tyres have the same wet and energy efficient, but the Goodyear are rated at 68db (same as the Pirelli’s) but the PS4 are 72db..unlikely to notice this given the SQ5 is well insulated anyway.

I have had Goodyear in the past and pleased with them..on blackcircles all 8 reviews are with SQ5 owners..and mostly give a sold review..

The PS4s do have a rim protector but it looks slightly smaller than the Pirelli, footprint may be a bit wider though. I've bought PS3s/4s for years now and have them on all 3 of my cars, can't see past them for performance and longevity TBH. Probably would have tried the Goodyears, Dunlops were also in the mix, but the PS4 SUV coming out at that exact time seemed like a good omen.
When I bought the SQ5 only about 4 manufacturers made tyres in that size, it's good that there's a wider choice now.

Mines on Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT 255/40 R21 Y (12) XL R01 and at 19600 miles there was still 4.5mm left - but as the dealer had already replaced two due to a puncture in one I fitted two more and can report they are an excellent tyre for the SQ5 in both wet and dry conditions.

Winters going on on at the end of the month and they also will be Dunlops - 255/45/R20 101V AO Dunlop SP Winter Sport
