Decisions, decisions...

Yes you are very correct in what you have written, I looked at other Audi alternatives and I couldn't really see anything I liked, or was different, unless I went to a A6. Obviously the new A3 will be an unknown, however that isn't due until next year anyway.

I may well be going out on a limb but I was impressed with the test drive...

Mmm, price offered by WBAC for my A4 is £18,000, my most recent quote to settle finance was £16,600...

You could make a profit if you could be bothered selling private. Mods for the merc. It’s beautiful.

I could sell privately but I'm not sure about the risk and dealing with time wasters...

congrats on your new purchase, your A4 has a pretty decent spec who ever buys this will be very happy
i take it you are taking out the dashcam what about the wiring?

Rather than selling private, which is mostly safe but can be a pain, I would try something like tootle, see what you get back, dealer will pay off your finance and give you the balance

I was going to suggest tootle. They tend to offer more than WBAC, but I sold my Q5 privately, no issues, and made an extra £2k

I took out my dashcams, and tucked in cabling at the back and front covering with insulation tape. Had offered cams to buyer but he was going to fit his own but knew where the cabling was

I think that Merc is gorgeous. If the deal is right, I’d say go right ahead.

I’m in a similar position. Similar in that I’m coming to the end of my warranty period, I absolutely love the A4 and don’t know whether to change it or keep it. Similar also in that I don’t like what they’ve done to the A4 either. I don’t mind the screen in place of the wheel as I’ve always found the wheel too fiddly and hire cars I’ve driven with touch screens are much easier. What I dislike are the exterior changes - for me it’s starting to look like the A4 is trying too hard, a bit like a woman who feels she’s losing her looks and begins to over- compensate when in reality she’s still good looking.

Where my case differs from yours is that I bought my A4 outright and I prefer estates to saloons. The simplest solution would be to get an extended warranty and run it for another year, but then in a year’s time it’ll be worth less and I’ll have to find a larger amount to change. May be better to change now while it still has about 50% of its original value. As a replacement I’ve been looking at the Volvo V60. It gets very good reviews and they have recently introduced a 190PS 2 litre petrol turbo engined version. I’m very tempted and there are some good offers out there.

My warranty runs out on 31 August so I have a few more weeks to prevaricate.

Cheers, I'll probably drive it to the place that sent out the mobile installer to remove it all. Just need to contact him. Might have that and other bits and pieces for sale....

The deal is done, monthly payments are £60 lower than my A4, offset by a £20 higher cost of the service plan...

CLA is a lovely looking car and the interior is the best one out there right now. The only downside is the engine is mounted in the wrong direction

Also worth bearing in mind (if you have a WBAC nearby), when you take the car in for a proper (as opposed to online) valuation, they seem to be easy to negotiate upwards.

Skip, hop and run into the CLA. More modern car with better tech and a class leading interior. The only week point in the old model was the dash which has been well and truly addressed.

Love the new CLA facelift, good choice I was thinking of the CLA 220d premium plus instead when the lease is up next April

Nice car make sure you give us a review of the merc compared to your A4, like to keep my options open merc looks great.

Still no firm build date and looking at a estimated November, however this might come forward. No ability for me to track the build process either...

Wow, that is a Looooong wait if November, but if you aren’t in any rush, doesn’t matter I suppose

It's a new model so I'm not surprised, no it's fine just might be able to have car for a few weeks if the build date isn't brought forward. Strong possibility it will...

I’m keeping my A4 until it’s not practical to do so as I purchased outright at new however, if I was looking for a new car just now I’d be sorely tempted by the Tesla Model 3. Sorry petrol heads!

Massive congratulations on your new CLA. Makes me a bit nervous to jump into the A4 now that some of you mentioned about how A4 is behind CLA

I am in the process to proceed with may be the last batch of A4 prior to facelift and still in two minds whether to proceed or not

If you want an A4 go for it - losing the MMI wheel is a nightmare and the new design is a step back.

The decision was easy in the end, the CLA is only a few millimeters smaller inside and outside dimensions and the boot space is 460 litres, only 20 less however there is additional storage under the boot floor in the CLA. The technology inside is far higher than the A4 with the ability to send what3words locations to the car as one example. Fully loaded the CLA still comes in under 40k compared with the specs of my car. Discounted both come out the same.

Took my car out to Herstmonceux Science Centre today, with grandaughter. Looking at it the car park I so like its looks and it is a wrench to move on. But if the CLA was in its place I am sure it would be the same..

Congrats on the CLA @cuke2u. I quite like the shape of the CLA and have driven a 64plate of a family member. Nice place to be in and I am sure the FL would be a lot better compared to the previous ones.

Thanks, but from what I understand it is a whole new car. To drive the refinement felt as good as the A4, a quiet place to be with little engine, wind or road noise. Also in terms of drivability the steering felt sharper and you could feel there was some more feedback than the A4 has...

Not much of an update, no news from the dealership what so ever so I'll be contacting them again next week.
Interesting result from this review, and surprising https://www.whatcar.com/news/new-jaguar-xe-and-mercedes-benz-cla-vs-audi-a5-sportback/n20156
It is odd to see the CLA being compared to cars in different classes (XE and A5). I guess it makes sense if you buy based on list price...

Will be interesting when the various new A3 shapes start coming out next year and 2021.

Just had an email from the salesperson to say that they are still working on getting a build slot for my car, I guess that as it is a new quarter then they'll have new quota's but it doesn't feel quite like the same process than with Audi.

I have told him I can give it two more months but after then, if no CLA on the horizon, I will be keeping the A4...

So you’ll pay the balloon payment? I’ve decided to keep mine for another year, although I bought it outright so not a particularly difficult decision. I did buy an extended warranty though. I thought £372 was pretty reasonable for a VAG backed warranty. I’ve watched the gearbox like a hawk for 3 years during which time it has been as good as gold. It would have been just my luck for it to go wrong if I hadn’t bought the warranty. In polite circles I think they call it Murphy’s law.

I hope you won’t be disappointed by Mercedes, having decided to make the change.

To be honest I’m really surprised you think the CLA is nicer than the A4. The centre console is made out of the most unbelievably cheap plastic.

I compared my stepdad’s CLA against my S5 when I first read this thread a while ago and thought you were mad for cross shopping them. But just chalked it up to the CLA having an OTR of nearly half the S5 and that maybe the Audi “A” cars were worse than the “S” cars. But the bog standard A4 I’ve got on loan at the moment is equally nice inside with the exception of cloth seats, aluminium trim and tiny screen.

If it’s what you like I don’t want to rain on your parade but I wouldn’t dream of getting a CLA after having my S5 (and extension this A4 courtesy car). Especially when the CLA is lightly used S5/S4 money.
