Hi there,

My pre-facelift 2014 S3 has just been called in for the 91U7 Infotainment security patch. A bit weird as I assumed it wouldn't apply to my vehicle.

I've booked it in, but when I asked them about it, they said that it applied a security patch only and would not update the firmware in my MMI at all, or even if I asked them, they would not do it.

My MMI is running MHIG_EU_AU_P1048 and I think (?) the latest version would be MHIG_EU_AU_P1531

Has anyone had their S3 in for this and knows what will happen or if they can indeed update the MMI while they have it ? It seems strange they'd take it in to apply a security update but then not fix outstanding bugs in it while they've got it all hooked up there at the same time........though I bet they'll try to wash it.

Thanks,
Roy.

What options do you have on your car? Mine's the same age but not heard anything about this update (though I have the MMI low version, no nav)

I believe it's just MMI High, with Nav, but no SIM card. So, nothing particularly special and I was surprised the update was relevant to my vehicle. Based on my conversations with the dealer previously around MMI, Nav etc. they may have got this wrong. But will find out next Tuesday.

My 2015 car has Sat Nav high but I’ve not heard anything about this. Well, Audi think it has but I’ve upgraded it to MIB2.

Just back from having this applied at the dealers. No difference to any software version that the MMI displays, so must be an underlying embedded OS update that they apply.

Shame that they offer to spend the time washing the car....but don't update the MMI to the latest version while plugged in to their computers.

The dealers go by "if it ain't broke don't fix it" they also don't get paid to do the update by Audi DE so it's never going to happen. Washing the car it cheap must only cost them £3 per wash, but taking up a service bay that could be earning them £££ per hour is a different thing.

Completely agree. The attitude is if it ain't broke don't fix it, plus can I charge you per hour to make some money from you for everything that I do.

I think a bit differently than that. I prefer the option to delight my customer, make them sticky to me, make them tell their friends about how good the dealers is so they'll go look at them.

This is the full report on the vulnerability in the cars, plus the response letter from VW:

I had heard this “update” messed up the overlay from Google Earth to just satellite view - anyone seen that happen? Also, did anyone’s coding through vcds disappear after the update? I hesitate to take the car in for anything outside mechanical or electrical in case they mess up my modded rear lights or power mirrors. I could always code stuff back again I suppose. Btw I got this notice and have MIB1 MMI high with SIM card on a ‘16, but I’m in the US if that makes a difference.
