The wife's S3 has lost coolant very slowly over the last couple of years and I've been topping it up. Dealer tested the system just before warranty expired and insisted there were no leaks.

Low coolant warning came on again yesterday and I noticed several puddles of fluid on the undertray - a lot near the front of the engine and a little on the left hand side where all the belt driven parts are - see picture.

The fluid has a coloured tinge. I managed to get some on a cloth but that didn't help me identify it, other than I think it's coolant and not oil.

So...am I the latest victim of the chocolate S3 8v waterpump or is this something else?

Water pump 100% get yourself to dealer!

Hope you have warranty?

Very common fault on S3. Faulty pump/thermostat housing. Given it's a known and common fault I'd be pushing it on them to fix despite being out of warranty (as it sounds is the case)

Agreed - that's my plan, assuming they confirm water pump is at fault. And yes, it's out of warranty.

I hope the fact I raised the loss of coolant before the warranty expired improves my case for goodwill.

Where is the waterpump/thermostat physically located w.r.t to my pic? Is it easy to see from above the engine, or only after removing other parts?

Not a clue where it is mate but they said they had to take a fair few parts out and it took Audi about 4 hours.

The water pump and thermostat housing is buried right at the front of the engine block. In your photo, immediate to the left of the yellow circle with the word "Lots", you will see the aluminium body of the throttle actuator. If you peek down below the actuator towards the engine block with a small flashlight, you will see a lot of rubber hoses. Under all the hoses will be the thermostat housing and water pump.
